Chapter Eleven

For a while, I wander around.

Still lost in the endless labyrinth of tall grass. It feels like forever, but I've probably only actually been in here for about twenty minutes.

Then I hear a sudden wail, it just sounds so sad.

Immediately, I spring into action. Following the noise as fast as I can, leaping over nearly invisible roots and logs.

Well, I'd properly be able to see all the naturalistic debris if I was going slow. But I wasn't, I was pretty much speeding but on foot.

When the wails end, I'm faced with a furry face with huge brownish purple eyes.

"Hello, sweetie." I coo, kneeling down as carefully as I could. I don't want to spook the poor creature. It sniffs my hand as I gently hold it out.

An Eevee... Wow, today must be my lucky day. I get to successfully sneak out, it's a lovely day and I've got a Pokémon. Maybe now I'll have two.

After sniffing my hand, the Eevee's nose continues up my arm. It goes up and up until it's gets to my neck. The wetness of it's nose rubbing onto my skin and it's little muddy paw leaving tracks on my thighs and the front of my overalls.

"Ah, hello." I say sweetly.

Then the Eevee sticks it's tiny tongue out at me and licks my face. All the way from my jaw to my bottom lip.

Ew, oh well.

The Eevee's just too cute to get mad at right now. I shift over a little and hold up the extra Poké Ball.

The Eevee stares at it for a second, then lightly touches it's forehead to the Poké Ball. It instantly disappears and I drop the Poké Ball onto my lap. It doesn't even move or tremble once.

I let out another relieved breath, I sure am lucky today. I really shouldn't jinx it like that though.

I carefully pick it up and put it back into my chest pocket with the other one.

Standing up again, I take another look around.

Still lost.

"Well, if I just walk straight in one direction I might make it to the edge. Then I could easily find my way back to Parker." I mumble, choosing to turn to my right and go forward from there.

With each passing minute, my legs get more and more tired. But I don't stop, I can just rest when I get out of this stupid wall-less maze.

Anyway, I've always wondering whether those berries work for humans too. Not just Pokémon.

It takes ages before I actually find the edges of the tall grass. Reaching out blindly for a tree to rest on, I grab onto empty air and fall flat on my face.

I quickly roll back over, not wanting to damage the Poké Balls in my chest pocket.
