"Hello?" I asked, picking up the telephone in the living room of Remus and I's old flat. Ever since Remus and Tonks got married and got pregnant, I had moved back in here alone. I didn't want to be a burden to anyone. I knew I was. But at least one that can live in their own house.
"Dorothy!" I heard Remus's voice shout down the phone. I had to jerk my head back. He sounded panicked, but I couldn't understand what emotion.
"Remus?" I shouted back, once I put my ear on the phone again. "What's wrong?"
"The baby!" He screamed maniacally. "The baby is coming!"
"Oh my god!" I screamed. "I'm on my way! I'm on my way!" I slammed the phone down, and picked up my wand and, without any shoes on, and a huge excited smile on my face, I apparated to Tonks's parents house.
The door was left open for me. It was extremely unsafe, considering the fact we were at war, but right now I didn't care. I slammed the door hard so it was properly locked and so they could hear that I had arrived.
"In the living room!" I heard Mrs Tonks voice call from the second door. I stopped in front of the door.
"Do you want me to come in?" I asked before opening the door. I heard screams coming from inside. If I didn't know what was going on I would have thought she was being tortured.
"If you want!" Mrs Tonks said impatiently. I waited there for a while, contemplating. I didn't really want to see this. I always hated pregnancy. I couldn't help it. It just grossed me out a bit. But I didn't want to miss the birth of Remus's child, whatever gender it was. They decided not to find out, so it would be a surprise.
I closed my eyes, and walked in.
The screaming had stopped.
I bravely opened one eye.
Tonks was lying on the sofa, which was covered in a white sheet. She was breathing heavily and sweating, but she had a smile on her face. Remus was behind her, his arms around her lovingly. He was extremely pale and ill-looking, but he also had a smile on his face. Mrs Tonks was gripping her daughter's hand tightly, smiling gleefully. They all turned to see me.
"Molly's just gone to wash him off." Mrs Tonks grinned at me. I couldn't help the smile spreading over my face. I walked over to where Remus stood.
"A boy?" I asked him. He nodded. I gave him a hug. I sniffed a little, and a tear rolled down my face, and I laughed a little. "Congratulations!" I hugged Tonks lightly and congratulated her, and I sat down next to Mrs Tonks.
Mrs Weasley walked in, holding the new little bundle of life.
"Here he is." She sang, passing the little baby boy into Tonks's hand. Tonks looked like she was about to cry.
"Here he is." Tonks repeated, sighing. She looked up at Remus. "Teddy Lupin."
"It's my son." Remus sniffed. "It's my son."
In my arms, I held my second godson, Teddy Lupin. His hair colour kept changing. Right now it was a deep purple. He was sleeping soundlessly in my arms, as me and Tonks stared down at him, admiring him.
Suddenly, my stomach hurt. It ached. It ached for something I could never get.
A baby.
I realised then I could never do all of the things I wanted to do with my life. I could never get married to Sirius. I could never have children. I could never watch them grow and graduate from Hogwarts. I could never wave tearfully as they left on the Hogwarts Express. I could never grow old with Sirius, and watch our children have children.
I suddenly realised how similar our love lives were. Lily and James got married, had a kid, and then died a year later. Sirius and I never even got to the marriage part. Let alone even becoming pregnant.
I feared what would happen to Remus and Tonks. And Teddy.
"I'm back." Remus whispered, tip-toeing into the room. "Harry was extremely happy to be his godfather." Remus found my eye. I realised I had been staring blankly, holding the baby loosely in my arms. "Dorothy?"
I breathed a pathetic laugh and smiled weakly. "I'm fine. Don't worry." I stood up and gave him his child.
"Are you sure?" He asked, giving me a stern look.
"Yeah," I breathed and nodded. Tonks came over to look at Teddy. "I just wish we could both have a child so they could grow up together."
Remus pulled me in for a hug as Tonks took Teddy in her arms.
"You do have a child." He whispered into my ear. "Harry's your child."
I smiled up at him weakly. "Yeah, he is."
"And a good one, considering he's the godfather of Teddy." Tonks added, coming over to us.
"You should be proud of your son." Remus told me.
"I would be," I told them. "But he's not just my son." They frowned. "He's yours too. And Mrs Weasley's. And Lily's and James." I laughed. "I'm not going to take all the credit of how he turned out."
"I guess we can all take a little credit." Remus shrugged. We laughed together. Just like old times.
"Even the Dursleys can take a bit." I chuckled, sitting back down on the couch.
"Yeah," Tonks agreed, sitting next to me. "The bad parts of him."
We all laughed and said in unison "What bad parts?"
"I'll tell you one bad part." Mrs Weasley said, joining us on the couch. "He's too selfless."
We all nodded and agreed. I thought of my godson, out on his own with is two best friends, trying to defeat Lord Voldemort.
God how I wished I could be beside him, helping him.
But that time would come. A war was coming soon. A great battle. And I would stand by him all the way.
