7th March 1990. 9:12.
It was my first birthday in eight years. I thought I might treat myself.
I went to the doctors. It was strange being back in St. Mungo's. It no longer felt trustworthy. They sent me to second floor - Magical bugs and diseases, where a young female doctor who specialised in recovering from diseases gave me a prescription that read:
Prescription for - Miss Dorothy Groff
Age - Thirty
One re-sizeability potion (month dose)
One radiancy potion (one dose)
One restoration potion (one dose)
As I went to leave, the female doctor gave me the prescription in her fancy, scribbled writing.
"Go to Madame Primpernelle's in Diagon Alley." she giggled. Her voice was naturally giggly. "These potions are better quality there. Oh, and happy birthday!" she smiled. "I remember when I turned thirty. Fifteen years ago."
My jaw dropped. "You're forty five?"
"Why do you think I suggested Madame Primpernelle's for?" She grinned, winking at me.
Remus came with me to Diagon Aley, but he left me alone so he could "shop for quills" but I knew he was getting me presents. One, he was a terrible liar. And two, The quill shop was in the other direction.
I didn't take time in looking around. It just brought me back to things I had had, butI no longer possessed. It made me think of my parents, and what they must have been thinking of me now that I had disappeared off the face of the earth for nine years.
I made a note to visit them.
And Elliot.
I worked out his age in my head. His bithday is in January, so he must be. I gasped.
Twenty.
And that means my parents must be.
I gasped again.
Sixty-two.
I shook it out of my mind and walked into the fluffy pink shop that was Madame Primpernelle's beautifying potions.
"How may I help you?" A young witch with blonde hair jingled. She looked a lot like me. When I was fifteen, I mean.
"I've got a prescription." I told her, passing her the parchment with shaking hands. She read through it, humming quietly to herself, and then ducked down behind the counter. She popped back up like toast in a toaster, and dropped three bottles of potion in front of me. Two small, one big.
"This one," She gestured to the large potion. "is the re-sizeability potion. You need to take a spoonful every month if you want to return to your normal size. This one," she gestured to the small one on the left. "is the restoration potion, which will restore any saggy or wrinkled skin to its original state in one dose. And this one," she gestured to the potion on the right. "is the radiancy potion. One dose and it will return your skin to its glowing, healthy self. You can take those ones now if you want!" She added, looking up to me. "There's a bathroom through the door behind me."
"Thanks." I said to her, taking the two small potions into the bathroom.
I stared into the mirror at my monstrous face. It disgusted me. I could barely look at it. I un-bottled the potion in my left hand, insure which one was which, and guzzled it down. I slammed the vial onto the sink I was leaning on and waited for the potion to work, squinting into the mirror. Slowly, my hollow cheeks moved up, and shaped itself into my face. My large eyes became smaller, and my face became more familiar. Smiling, I swallowed the second potion down, which tickled my skin and made it look healthier, and happier.
