3rd May 1998. 7:12.
War was over. For good. Voldemort was dead. He was never going to come back.
We had lost so many people that we loved in this battle. Not just the battle of Hogwarts, but this battle that had been going on since Tom Riddle discovered horcruxes.
I had lost Lily, James, Sirius and Remus. I didn't even care about Pettigrew. He would die soon enough, filled with guilt and shame.
After all of this time, I found out that Snape was on our side. That was one of my biggest regrets. If only I knew. If only.
I had lost a great deal of things in my life. It had been an extremely complicated and hard one. But now it was time to think of the good things, and to try very hardly to move on.
"Harry," I told my godson in the Great Hall, as the sun shone over the ruins of Hogwarts. "I am so proud of you."
"For killing someone?" He laughed.
"Of course!" I told him honestly. "I know your parents would have been proud of you."
"They are!" He told me. "I saw them."
After everything that had happened today, I thought it was easier not to ask questions.
"Well, I hope you told Sirius that I missed him!" I joked. It didn't seem strange to smile and laugh. The time of mourning was over, and it was now time to be grateful and celebratory.
I saw Ron and Hermione overlooking our conversation. "I'll let you go to your friends now!" I gave him a huge hug, which he returned passionately. "I'll talk to you later. I think we all need some sleep!"
"I love you." He told me. I kissed his forehead.
"I love you too."
I walked over to where professor McGonagall was.
"Do you need any help with anything?" I asked her, sitting beside her.
"Yes," she sighed. "I want you to sleep."
I smiled at her. "I don't need sleep. I'm fine."
"Don't lie to me, Groff." She told me, smiling. "I know you haven't been able to sleep properly since the first wizarding war started."
I laughed. "I'll make you a deal." She nodded. "I'll sleep if you sleep."
"That's no problem!" She laughed. "Just let me sort a few things out first." She touched my shoulder, and left me sitting there, alone.
Kingsley and Hagrid joined me.
"You alright, Dorothy?" Hagrid asked gently.
"I'm fine." I breathed, smiling at them.
"You've lost a lot because of this." Kingsley said to me, putting an arm around me.
"Yeah," I agreed. "But I've also gained a lot." I leaned on Hagrid's big arm, and watched the sun go up, looking at Harry and his friends.
It will be alright, I told myself. Everything will be fine.
