Connor POV
Instantly we both sprinted in the direction of the sound. I tuned my auditory sensores as we ran, and I could hear a struggle in the alley ahead. Hank called for backup as we rounded the corner, guns drawn.—He stood in the alley, pinning an android woman against the wall, holding her off the ground with his bare hands around her neck."Police!!!!" Hank shouted, "Put her down!!"
The 900 turned his head to look at us with a sneer on his face. His hands, arms and chest were coated in blue blood, staining his white attire. His eyes glanced mechanically between me and my partner.
He grabbed the woman and buckled his arm tight around her neck, holding her in front of himself as a coward's shield.
"Put down the girl, 900!! She hasn't done anything to you!" I yelled, running calculations in my head.
Something about that made him smile, a cruel wicked grin contorted around his face. "You think what I'm doing is wrong! You can't even see... This world you've built is vile- it's full of lies and deceit! You don't feel anything—" Though he had delivery to his words, his tone was far removed from any emotion.
"Thats enough!!" Hank shouted, aiming his gun, trying to clear a shot.
"What are you going to do Officer? Shoot me?!" The 900 taunted pulling the scared woman close to himself.
The edge of my vision blurred—biocomponent #A754h: overheating—I tried to focus.-God! I hate this!
Hank's face shifted, as the words caught him off guard; I realized if he shot, he'd have to shoot my face- I wasn't sure if he could.- Or if I could in his position.
My head burned like fire, but I finished my calculations, and took a moment to collect myself.-Here we go.
I fired my gun just passed the 900's head causing him to jump, stepping backward, pulling the girl back with him. I ran at him, grabbing the woman and pushing myself between him and her, she fell forward and I pushed my back into the 900, glad he no longer had a gun.
I felt his arm hook tightly around my neck.
"Connor!" Hank yelled, his gun shifting, searching for a open shot.
Nine-hundred squeezed, arm clamping down pushing tight on my neck. "Oh.. what were you thinking?" He taunted, happy with the new catch. "You make a much better shield, my friend."
My blue blood ran low in my legs and I stiffened. "L-let me go." I say, pressing my only hand to his arm, lining the barrel of my gun with the side of my neck. "Let me go... brother.. please.. D-Don't you have a soul?" I pleaded, hoping to see a change in him; a glimmer of anything behind his eyes.
The 900 shook his head. "Oh.. You still believe that poor lie don't you.-Well guess what?" He leaned in close, bringing his lips near to my ear, "I don't."
"I just had to be sure." I say, squeezing the trigger of my gun firing behind my back. The gunshot rang out loud in my ears, maxing out my audio and making them ring. I turned slowly, and see my own face looking back at me, shock in his blue eyes, bullet up through the neck and into the back of the head.
Blue blood streamed from his wounds, coating his skin and already blood stained shirt, he fell to his knees, looking up at me.
I watched him as his processor struggled to form his words. His face shifting as he met my eye. "And... it seems.. neither do you.... ..brother.." His body died as his generator slowed to a stop. He fell stiff, braced on his knees.
I looked away, and found my legs weak. I started to fall, but caught myself on the brick wall beside me. What had I done?
"Hey! It's okay. Are you okay?" Hank asked, running to my side, putting his gun away.
I leaned on the wall. "..yeah. I-I'm fine."
The android woman starred blankly at us- she must still be in shock, her eyes dull as if still processing the events.
Hank leaned down and helped her up. I didn't move.
Sirens stormed in, and seconds to late the street was filled with cops.
My world spun with the noise and the motion. I honestly couldn't tell if my brain was melting or if it was just how I felt.
I just want to go home..
Hank put a strong hand on my shoulder. "Connor? Look at me."
I could barely meet his eye.
"You didn't have a choice." Was all he said.
I think I nodded, I'm not really sure. A few minutes later I sat against the edge of a ambulance, a mechanic repairing the side of my neck, I hadn't even noticed, but the kickback of my gun had torn my skin, now my shirt was blue with blood.
I stared empty, at the scene ahead of me. The android woman was being treated for her trama, and cops were all over the street, the whole area lit with red and blue.
Hank walked up slowly, looking at me with a gentle concern. "How do you feel?" He asked after a moment.
I didn't answer, just looked down.
The paramechanic finished patching my skin, and gave us some space. Hank sat down next to me, and we were both quiet.
"I know how bad you feel." Hank began after a minute of silence, "But you just saved the day you know."
Did I? It certainly didn't feel that way.
