"C'mon Ashlyn, it's a long weekend. Go the party with me and Daniel."

I shake my head. "No."

"Why not?" Bailey whines.

"Because I don't want to be a third wheel. Again."

"But you won't be."

"Oh, so this where Daniel plays matchmaker again?"

Bailey bites her lip, "yeah."

Since the day that me and Daniel spent the day together and drank and what not, he's been playing matchmaker. He's been attempting to set me up with his friends. It was fun at first, but the more I go on dates with guys I have no interest in, I realize that I like Daniel. Great, right? Yeah no. Bailey thinks she's in love with Daniel, so that's kinda cute.

"Please Ashlyn, I think you'll actually like this one."

I look at her with a blank face, "that's what you said about the last one."

"Yeah I know, but I actually met this one."

"Okay and?"

"He seems perfect for you."

"Fine. I'll go."

Bailey squeals, "thank you and you better get dressed. Phillip and Daniel are going to be here any second."

-

Any second. It meant a half hour, but thank god it was longer than I thought because it actually let me get ready. So I swapped my sweats for a pair of high-waisted black skinny jeans. I changed my hoodie for a red tank top and a white jean jacket, and I slipped on a pair of black vans. And my hair, well it's straightened, because I was too lazy to pull out my curling iron. And currently we are all sitting at Applebees at eleven-thirty, because the cops came and shut down the party. Amazing.

"Honestly, I say I'm going to dropout like seven times a class period, but I never will." Phillip says before taking a sip of his Dr Pepper.

I laugh, an actual laugh. "Yes holy shit me too."

"Like I sit there and put on this whole facade that I don't care and shit, but I really do. You know?"

I nod. "Everyone assumes that I don't care just because I party here and there. Or because I smoke here and there, but my grades they aren't complete shit."

"My straight A's are amazing." Phillip says laughing.

"Yeah, my A's and B's are quite amazing."

"What do you have a B in?"

"Calculus."

Bailey looks at me and her face falls, "Ashlyn you've always been amazing in math, especially calculus."

I look at her, "well it's getting hard. Plus I'm having a hard time focusing." I shift my glace quickly to Daniel and then back to Bailey.

"What's distracting you?" Bailey asks, obviously worried. Normally I pass all my classes effortlessly, but since I've met Daniel, that focusing thing has been hard.

"Everything I guess," I lie. "You know everyone's so talkative and then now the teachers aren't strict because we're seniors and whatnot."

"Just cancel out all the talking." Bailey says. "That's what I do."

"Yeah, when you're in class."

She laughs, "yeah."

From Daniel: I'm the thing distracting you.

To Daniel: No, I never said that.

From Daniel: Then what are you getting distracted by?

To Daniel: Everything.

From Daniel: Okay, I'm under the category of everything.

To Daniel: Okay Mr Smart-ass

From Daniel: You act like I don't catch when your eyes linger on me longer than they should.

To Daniel: You shouldn't even notice that if you're pay attention to Bailey.

-

I look at my phone and it's a little past one. "Hey we should head back to my house. We can hangout there, Ma isn't home."

Everyone agrees and gets up and grabs their stuff. "hey I'll go start the car." Phillip announces throwing on his hoodie.

"I'll go with you." Bailey says smiling.

"Bailey, no, I'll go. Stay with Daniel." I defend. I honestly don't want to be around Daniel right now.

Bailey shakes her head, "Daniel actually needs to talk to you, so deal with him."

I nod, "fine, but no stealing my date. I actually approve of him."

Bailey giggles, "got it."

I watch as Phillip and Bailey walk out of the restaurant and make it to the car.

"We're going to need to talk sometime." Daniel says breaking the silence.

"There's nothing to talk about."

"You're really going to be like that?" Daniel questions.

I turn around and face him. "Be like what? There's nothing to talk about. I told you that before, but you didn't listen."

"There's obviously something."

"Nope."

Daniel runs his hand through his hair, "Ashlyn why are you failing calculus?"

"I'm not failing, just not doing amazing."

Daniel rolls his eyes and takes a step closer to me, "why aren't you doing amazing in calculus?"

"I've been distracted." I whisper.

"By?"

"You," I croak looking down at the floor.
