CHAPTER 26

*CRAIG'S POV*

Zoe is lost, literally. She shows up on class then disappeared right after. By that, I cannot get the chance to tell her how I feel.

I've been prepared for that moment, but she's not giving me the right time. In fact, she's not giving me time at all.

When I asked her to hang out, she always reasoned her aching head, feet or she's badly busy. And when there's time that we're together, she's not paying attention to whatever I'm saying. Her body is with me but her mind's flying somewhere else.

I found it hard to make her laugh and smile now, she became the deepest person I've known. I'm drowning in her silence and change. She locks herself on the pages of a book, guarding the detention room or in Mrs. Thompson's office. Hot-headed, short-tempered and easily bored Zoe now flashes before my eyes.

Last Tuesday, I tried calling Ash too. To ask if he knew what's been troubling Zoe, but he's not picking up. Every time I visit their house their maids block the door and tell me Ash’s not home. His parents said Ashton's on a trip, but they won't tell me exactly where. The worst, they said they don't know when he'll come back.

Is there something going on with these people?

Sometimes a little suspicion build up in my head. Is it possible that Ashton and Zoe were already together? And they're just hiding it from me? Did they have a fight, that is why they're too cold to everyone around them? Then if so, why are they hiding it from me?

They should tell me what's going on between them. I won't get mad, besides me and my best friend have an agreement. Whoever Zoe will choose, we said it will not change anything between our friendship.

I'm totally cool with that. No hard feelings. Friends will be friends, no matter what. Right?

The creaking sound of a short-dragged chair caught my attention. Zoe stood up and lifted a book from her arm desk, she paused for a second to check her phone and headed out. Without a glance, without a word for me.

My eyes followed her, still hoping she would at least glance my way, even if I'm not the one she's looking at. Just a glance to see her face is enough.

She waited for other students to unclog the door until she followed them. She disappeared completely to the crowd outside without looking back.

I rubbed my face, all the way to my hair and went out too. Walking straight ahead to the cafeteria to get lunch. I spotted Zoe fixing her things on her locker. So I went for mine too, placing my things in it and secretly rolled my eyes to have a peek of her.

Zoe acted like I don't exist, she's calmly organizing her things and turned around to my direction after closing her locker. Checked her phone again for quite some time. I passed by her after I finished fixing my things. This time I ignored her too. No matter how I wanted to greet her, I can't. I have to do this, I want to see how will she react to it.

The hallways were crowded as usual and I constantly glance back if Zoe somehow was following me. But she's not; she walked the opposite direction and turned to the rest rooms. I stopped walking, and let out a hopeless sigh. Maybe she doesn't care for me anymore.

I feel like I don't know her anymore, she's been so reserved and mysterious. Like how Ash mysteriously disappeared. Every time I asked her what's wrong she'll only answer me with a shake of her head or a shrug or nothing.

It's making me feel like she don't trust me, that I'm a total stranger to her.

I turned back and proceeded to the cafeteria alone. Girls looked at me and some waved and smiled, but sorry, they're no Zoe Keaton. They'll only get my glance but not my attention.
