Chapter Fourteen

“You really think so?” Ghost was asking.

It was Sunday, twelve in the afternoon. That means we had today, tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday to finish the quest. After being sucked into the water by the white beast on Friday, I was able to detach the metal tip – which we learned was basically a heart – and we got the map. Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy.

None of us had changed clothes since Friday.

“I totally think so!” I answered Ghost. He had started being a lot nicer since I destroyed the dragon.

The time we spent between now and defeating the dragon was filled with us charging my Gameboy – Christina’s too, just in case – and following the map. It was going to take us to some cave that held the stone that gives life to all dragons.

“I hope we have you with us in the next quest. Honestly, I really think that we will get the same one. I could totally use your quick thinking,” he said.

          “Me too!”

          “Me three!”

Wow, these people actually wanted me? This was something I was not used to.

“There it is,” Christina points into the distance, “The cave that holds the stone.”

Connor walks over to look at the map she’s holding. “Yup it looks exactly like the one on the map. The entrance begins halfway up a mountain that has two larger mountains, one on each side of it.”

I quickly helped Christina up onto our dragon – “Thank you, kind sir,” she says in a joking way – and we fly over to the cave entrance. Connor and Ghost behind us.

“Do we just go in, or is there some kind of doorbell?” Connor asks.

“You idiot, why would there be a doorbell to a cave?” I meant Ghost was a lot nicer to me. He’s still mean to everyone else.

“I don’t know, but I’m sure Batman has a door bell.”

Ignoring his comment, Ghost is the first to step into the cave, and we all follow him. Inside, is a tunnel, big enough for our dragons to walk side-by-side. The only light is from the sun outside. It was very dark in here.

“What do we do now?” Connor asks.

Christina is the first to answer. “Look up ahead. There is a light. That must be where the stone is.” She looks at me, smiles, and her cheeks go pink; though I can barely tell with the poor lighting.

We walk to the end of the tunnel and enter a massive room. It kind of resembled a professional baseball field in size, length, width, and height. Stalactites and stalagmites were everywhere. There were torches on all the walls, lit, so we are able to see without any trouble, but the flicker of light really gave it that spooky feel. I literally got Goosebumps just looking around the place.

“There’s the stone! Envy let’s run and go get it!”

“No, Connor, you idiot. Envy is a lot smarter than that. It’s obviously a trap.” I really liked how Ghost treated me now, but I also really hated how he treated my friend.

Suddenly, the top of the cave opened up, and one little dragon fell to the ground. Afterwards, the top of the cave closed back up. It resembled a black widow spider, but it was about the size of a cat, with a long tail, and two little wings. While it charged at us, rather quickly, Ghost laughed and said, “They have one puny little griffin guarding this stone. Pathetic.”
