Chapter Eight
Friday
We had just defeated the giant elf and finished the first quest. Christina was telling me to travel the world with her, because apparently part of the whole four quests thing is that I have to stay with my protector. I really would love to travel around with her, but there’s a problem.
“My mom would capital ‘K’, kill me, if I just decided not to show up for four weeks,” I was telling her, “and besides, even if I did tell her, she wouldn’t let me go.”
“Ha-ha, Envy, you’re so adorable. Buuuuuuut, if you don’t wanna travel around with me you don’t haaaaaaave to.”
Why did she have to put it like that? I want to spend time with her so badly! I look over to the giant demon elf, the bleachers completely crushed where it landed. I bet that thing’s mom would let it travel around with a girl it liked. There’s a sad, disappointed look covering my face.
“Aww, don’t be sad, cutie,” she says, and I don’t understand why she calls me that. Does she like me? No, she has a boyfriend. I really need to ask her about that soon.
“I’m not sad, I just don’t want to upset my mom. I love her more than the world.”
“I was totes kidding about saying you don’t have to go if you don’t want to. I know you want to, I just wanted to tease you, ha-ha.” She looks into my eyes, and I still can’t hold the contact. She continues, “Let me explain something. We are in our own dimension with our dream nightmares. We’re in the real world, and people can see us, but what they see isn’t exactly what we see.”
“That’s interesting.” I tell her about the lady in the parking lot who didn’t see the demon elf.
Christina laughs. “I bet that completely confused you, but she didn’t see a demon elf. I don’t know what, but she saw another person, or a dog, or something that wouldn’t frighten her. Whether we are inside or outside of the dome, our Dream Nightmare’s don’t allow anyone to see in our dimension.”
“Same idea with you smashing the trophy case, and with that giant demon elf lying right there?”
“Exactly. No one else will be able to see those things. Again, I don’t know what, but to them it will look like an intense storm or a tornado went through here.”
“Alright.”
“With your mom, she won’t even know your missing. In her dimension she will still see you at home, even though you’re not really there.”
“If you can promise me that,” I say, “then I will agree to travel the world with you while we complete the four quests.”
She promises me that, and then, the metal ball disappears from my hand, and she says we won’t get those back since the first quest is over. That’s terrible, I really liked shooting lightning and fireballs.
Saturday
She tells me she doesn’t know what, or how many, things come to life from either of our dreams. Unfortunately, about all she knows, involving that, is what the quest is, but only once it comes to life at a random time on Friday.
“So you’re really bound from telling me certain things? That’s lame!” We are hanging out at the mall in Navarre. She has completely forced me into Vitoria’s Secret. Ewe, girl stuff.
