"Mom!" Jin bolted upright in the bed, gasping as if he actually needed air.
"What happened?" Kim Namjoon ran into the room, gun raised.
"Bad dream," he told him, clutching at his stomach. It was knotted tightly again, and he wished he could vomit. He thought he probably would have felt better had he been able to.
Officer Kim sighed, lowering his gun. "That's understandable, after what happened. If you need anything, don't hesitate to call for me."
He fell back against the pillows once the officer had left him alone. He was frustrated that all he could do was lay low while that hunter was still out there. Sooner or later, he knew the hunter would track him down, so at least he wouldn't have to worry about trying to find him on his own.
He would probably also be contacted soon by other vampires. It wasn't just the human world that his family held influence over, so the fact that everyone but him had been killed by a hunter would cause quite a stir. Honestly, he was surprised he hadn't already been contacted by anyone.
"Wait a minute." He searched his pockets, frowning when he couldn't find his cell phone. "I definitely had it when I was at the police station."
After searching the entire room and coming up with nothing, something occurred to him. Fuming, he marched to the living room area, not bothering to wake Officer Kim up before demanding for his cell phone to be returned.
"We left it at the police station," Officer Kim murmured, sitting up and rubbing his eyes. "You handed it over to the chief to use in the investigation before I even got there ."
His frown deepened. Had he really given it to the police chief? Thinking back on how he had basically been on autopilot the whole night, he figured that was actually very likely. It wasn't like he had anything on his cell phone apart from some business contacts, but he suddenly felt very cut off without it. If no one could contact him via phone, they would most definitely come looking for him to make sure he was still alive.
"We couldn't risk it being tracked, so we had to leave it. If there is someone who needs to contact you, the police station will take care of it. We can get you a burner phone if you really need one."
"I'll have to manage the company," Jin said, telling half of the truth. "I'm sure it will be in chaos as soon as word breaks out in the morning."
"Is that really something you should be worrying about right now?" Officer Kim asked. "I'm sure your board or whatever will take care of things for a few days. They'll understand that you need some time before thinking about business."
"I appreciate the concern, but I will need a cell phone as soon as you can get one for me. No matter what happened, I'm Kim Seokjin, so I can't forget those responsibilities."
"You realize that once you step up to replace your dad, things are going to be crazy. Whoever hired that hitman—and I'm sure other companies who want to take control of your company—will descend like vultures to try to prove you inadequate to lead the company."
"I know that," he snapped.
"With as young as you are, I'm sure they'll try to hold that against you, too."
He scoffed. "I'm older than I look, Officer Kim. I've also been involved in the operations of this company for years, so I know what I'm getting into."
"You can't be more than early twenties," Officer Kim said. "That's still young to be running a company alone."
"I'm twenty-five." At least, physically he was.
The officer looked surprised. "You're older than me, then."
"Does that mean you should call me Hyung," he smirked.
It was Officer Kim's turn to scoff. "I don't plan on getting that close to you, Kim Seokjin. I might feel sorry for everything you've been through, but this is still my job."
"That's a relief to hear. It would be troublesome if you fell for my good looks."
He snorted. "Go to bed, Seokjin. We have a long drive this evening, and an exhausting next couple of days."
Jin nodded, returning to the bedroom. He couldn't sleep, though. He knew if he did fall asleep he'd just dream about the night before again, and he really didn't want to relive that anytime soon. Instead, he stared at the ceiling, listening to the officer's slow breathing and quiet snores from the next room.

This was going to be the longest assignment of Namjoon's life. Kim Seokjin had made it obvious that he wasn't happy with the arrangement of Namjoon protecting him at a safehouse. He had tried again that evening to convince him that he didn't need the police's protection. This had led to a rather large argument that resulted in Seokjin calling him a bastard and refusing to speak to him.
Not even getting the guy a damned burner phone had helped in lowering tensions.
"Are you hungry?" He asked, glancing over to where Seokjin sat in the passenger seat. It was almost eight at night, and the man hadn't eaten anything since at least the night before, so he figured he was probably starting to get hungry.
When no answer came, he sighed, pulling into the parking lot of a fast food place and parking the car. "Listen, I'm not happy about this, either. I'd rather be doing a million other things than babysitting you for god knows how long, but we're both stuck in this situation. We might as well try to get along, right?" Still no answer.
Cursing, he went through the drive-thru, ordering them both something to eat. For someone who just watched his entire family get killed, he certainly doesn't seem too in mourning to me.
"Here." He handed the silent man a bag of food. "Eat if you want."
"If I eat that, I will throw up in your car."
"I'm sorry if this isn't good enough for you—"
"I'm sick to my stomach. It has nothing to do with the food."
He closed his mouth, nodding. Maybe the man wasn't as unaffected as he acted. He probably wouldn't want to eat, either, after what Seokjin had seen.
The two returned to their previous silence as he finished the final three hours of their five-hour drive.
Once at the safehouse, he grabbed their bags and led the way inside, entering the passcode to unlock the door for them.
"Officer Kim," Seokjin said, quietly, grabbing his arm.
"What?" He was a bit startled the man had actually spoken to him.
"I think there's someone inside."
"What are you talking about?" He frowned. "Only a select few agents know this passcode, so there's no way—"
Shots rang out before he could finish. Acting on instinct, he dropped their bags and shoved Seokjin backwards. "Get back to the car." Not waiting for an answer, he typed the emergency code into the lock system that would send an alert to the nearest police station.
How the hell had their location been discovered so quickly? They hadn't even stepped foot in the house yet, so how would anyone have known they would be there? More shots rang out, so he didn't have anymore time to contemplate it. Turning the safety of his gun off, he made his way inside.
