A New Plan

Namjoon knew he shouldn't leave Jin alone so long, but he couldn't bring himself to go back to the tiny apartment where the two of them would be only five feet from one another—on opposite sides of the apartment. So, he stayed in Jackson's room for nearly three hours.
Jackson didn't seem to mind, first detailing the plan the chief had come up with, and then talking to him about other updates on the case. He showed Namjoon video footage of the car they believed belonged to the assassin, but it had changed from the description given by witnesses at the first safehouse, so they assumed the assassin was either stealing vehicles to use, or he had multiple to use.
"Whoever hired him could be supplying cover vehicles as well," Jackson added. He paused, sighing at the footage. "If the quality wasn't so terrible, we might be able to get a glance at this guy's face."
"If we stick around here long enough, he'll show up," Namjoon said, though he still hated this plan. Even though he now knew Jin wasn't as fragile as he originally thought, this hunter was definitely capable of killing him.
"It's getting late," Jackson said, glancing at his phone. "Jin is probably wondering what's taking you so long, if he hasn't already fallen asleep."
"Probably the latter," he chuckled.
"Well," Jackson smirked, "if you want to sleep somewhere more comfortable than the floor, my bed's open."
Namjoon shook his head. "You never change. Horndog."
"Not my fault you always look like that," Jackson shrugged.
He laughed, rolling his eyes as he got to his feet. "I'll see you in the morning."
Dizziness suddenly swept over him once he was on his feet, and he had to fight to stay upright long enough to get across the hall. He practically collapsed against the apartment door as he closed it.
"You need to eat something."
He jumped at the sound of Jin's voice. "Why are you still awake?"
Jin was sitting in the tiny armchair, frowning at him. "I knew you hadn't eaten, and you need to. You were dizzy before everything happened with the hunter, when we sent Jackson to get food, remember? But you never got to eat anything."
Namjoon subconsciously pressed himself against the door when Jin got to his feet and approached him. Looking a bit hurt—making Namjoon feel slightly guilty—he held out his hand, giving Namjoon a pack of crackers.
"Yoongi brought us a few things; he knows about what happened. I had him delete the security footage before he left, too, so he won't show up if Jackson watches it later."
Namjoon was too exhausted to scold him for letting people into the apartment. "Don't mess with the footage," he grumbled, opening the crackers.
Jin nodded, smiling. "Won't happen again."
After a few moments of silence other than the crunching of crackers, Jin told Namjoon he could sleep on the bed.
"Don't start treating me like some fragile thing, just because you managed to catch me off guard," Namjoon snapped. "I'm still the officer here, and I'm still protecting you, so I'm not about to sleep on the bed while the victim in this case sleeps on the floor."
"I'll be fine. I—"
"Shut up and sleep on the bed," he ordered.
"You're the one with an injured shoulder. My body will be completely healed by morning, even if I don't rest well. Yours needs actual sleep."
"Like that's gonna happen with a damn vampire in the room," he grumbled to himself, but judging by Jin's hurt frown, he'd heard.
"If I make you uncomfortable, you can sleep in Jackson's room. I'm sure you'd much rather be with him, anyways," Jin snapped.
"Sorry for being a little apprehensive," he snapped back. "You've already attacked me once, and I'm still trying to wrap my head around all of this without convincing myself I'm actually just crazy."
Jin sighed. "I'm sorry about what happened in the bathroom. I should never have let myself lose control like that. It won't happen again."
"How can I be sure of that?"
Jin smiled, though it looked a bit sad. "You just have to trust me. I've lived with you for two weeks without doing anything, right?"
He nodded. "That's true."
"Good. Now, sleep." Before he could argue any more, Jin sat in the armchair, slinging his legs over one of the arms and leaning his head against the back of the chair.
"You're the most stubborn person I've ever worked with," he sighed.
"I could say the same about you," Jin chuckled.
He changed into a pair of sweats, his body practically sinking into the hard mattress as soon as he'd laid down. He was exhausted—a lot more than he thought—and it only took a few minutes for him to fall asleep.
Unfortunately, it felt like he had only slept a few minutes before there was a loud banging on the apartment door. It swung open as Namjoon sat up, and Jackson came in.
"Namjoon, wake up. We have a problem," he said, barely giving him time to rub the sleep from his eyes.
"What is it?" He asked, getting to his feet, his nerves on high-alert.
"One of our men was found dead in his car this morning. He was in an unmarked car about a block from here for surveillance. Chief couldn't reach him this morning, so a uniformed officer went to check things out when they found him," Jackson explained as Namjoon threw on a pair of jeans and strapped on his gun holster.
"Damn it. That pretty much confirms my suspicions of there being a mole in the force."
"I've been having the same thoughts," Jackson said with a frown. "Unless the guys back in Seoul have been gossiping, only a small group of people knew about this plan."
"That means the mole is someone high-ranking," Jin said, standing beside Namjoon. "If one of our rival companies hired the assassin, they could have easily bought the loyalty of the police department as well."
"Damn," Jackson cursed. "This changes our plans. If this guy can ID our officers in plain clothes, that'll make catching him harder."
"Perhaps we should go for a more direct approach," Jin suggested, causing both of the officers to look at him in confusion.
"What do you mean?" Namjoon asked.
"I mean, take this to him. Put me out in the open. This guy is a good shot, but it isn't like he's a sniper. He'll have to get within a decent range to hit me, right?"
"Absolutely not," Namjoon and Jackson said together.
"That might be our only option, unless you want more of your officers to die," Jin told them. "He killed that officer for a reason, most likely to steal whatever information he had or could access. That will keep happening until he eventually gets to me. I am tired of hiding. However this ends, I'm ready for it to be over."
"No," Namjoon said, firmly. "Hyung, putting you out in the open will do nothing but get you killed. We're not risking that."
"Last time I checked, it's my life at risk here," he frowned, "and I'm willing to do this if it means finally getting this bastard."
"He has a good—"
"Jackson, I swear to God if you take Jin-Hyung's side on this I will shoot you," Namjoon snapped, glaring at him.
"Joon-ah, I know you're worried about Seokjin's safety, but this might be the only way to get this guy. He's avoided us all this time, and now we're starting to lose officers too. We've done setups with victims before, and we've always succeeded."
"Not happening." Namjoon shook his head, crossing his arms. "No."
"Call your chief," Jin told Jackson. "Tell him about my idea. I'll speak with Namjoon."
Jackson glanced at Namjoon before nodding and ducking out the door. Jin grabbed the officer's arm as he started after the other man.
"Hyung, we're not—"
"I'm not that fragile, remember?" Jin cut him off when he began to argue.
Namjoon crossed his arms, looking halfway like he wanted to shoot Jin himself. "I don't care. We aren't putting you at risk."
"Jackson said you've done this with others. I'm no different."
"You are."
"I am?" Jin looked at Namjoon, startled by the determination in his voice.
"The others weren't famous," Namjoon quickly added. "We could send them out without it being suspicious. This guy will know immediately it's a setup if you're suddenly out on your own because we've kept you so closely monitored until now."
"But I've gone out alone a couple of times that he knows of," Jin said, not entirely believing that's what Namjoon had meant. "If I make it seem like I went out again on my own, he might buy into it."
"I'm still not agreeing to this."
"Then it's a good thing the final decision isn't up to you."
They were staring each other down when Jackson came back into the apartment. "I just talked to the chief. He—am I interrupting something?" He looked between the two of them.
Jin was the first to pull his gaze away, looking instead at Jackson. "No. Namjoon is just being stubborn as usual. What did your chief say?"
"He is going to come up with a plan. An outside team is going to take part in the setup, since there's a mole in our department. He said to give him three days."
"I don't like this," Namjoon grumbled.
"Me either, Joon-ah, but it might be the only chance we've got. We'll keep Jin-Hyung safe."
"I trust you will," Jin nodded, thanking the detective when he left to discuss further plans with the chief.
"What's the likelihood of this guy killing you during this plan?" Namjoon asked.
"We have about a fifty-fifty shot," Jin replied, honestly. "He's a skilled hunter. He infiltrated my home and managed to kill three matured vampires with little effort. No matter how skilled your men are, I don't see them standing much of a chance against him. Especially after he's waited this long to get to me."
"I'm not going to let you die, Seokjin."
Jin couldn't help but smile at the determined look the officer was giving him. It was incredibly touching that the human man was still so willing to protect him, even after learning what he was. He wondered if all humans were like that, or if it was just something special about Namjoon.
"Thank you, Namjoon-ah."
Namjoon smiled, putting his hand in Jin's shoulder. "It's—" He cut off with a confused look when Jin quickly pulled away.
That same heat from before was radiating throughout Jin's entire body, just from one touch, and by the way Namjoon was looking from his own hand to Jin in confusion meant he could feel it as well.
"Is that a Vampire thing?" Namjoon asked.
"You should avoid touching me," Jin warned. His entire body disagreed with that, and he had to use most of his willpower not to move towards Namjoon.
"Is that why you attacked me yesterday?"
"Can we stop calling it 'attacked'?" Jin grimaced. "I already feel bad enough about it."
"What else can we call it?" Namjoon snorted.
"I'd rather not talk about it at all," he groaned.
"You're the one who did it."
"I know that," he snapped. "Can we just drop it?"
"You never answered my question. Is it why?"
"Mostly," he sighed.
"Does that...feeling...happen every time you touch a human?"
He shook his head. "That's the first time I've experienced it. Probably because of having your blood."
"But it happened before the...bathroom incident too," Namjoon said, choosing his words carefully at the end.
"Must have been from smelling your blood for so long," he lied. He was not about to confess to tasting his blood when he first changed his bandages two weeks ago.
Namjoon frowned, and Jin could tell he didn't entirely believe him. "Wouldn't that happen with all of the humans you work with at your company, then?"
"Can we please let it go?" He asked, sitting in the armchair. "You're a special case, apparently. Let's leave it at that."
Namjoon nodded, still frowning. He sat on the bed, rubbing his shoulder almost absent-mindedly. Jin watched him from his peripheral. The officer was definitely a special case. If they really were bonded, he would need to think of a solution soon. If the hunter kills me, I might not have to worry about coming up with a solution, he thought to himself, humorlessly.
It seemed like he had three days before his fate was decided. Once the Chief came up with a plan, they would either catch the hunter, or he would join his family.
