i was still in shock about what sierra had told me this morning by the time lunch rolled around. nate hasn't said anything to me today since i blew him off this morning.
i kind of didn't care.
i should've but i didn't.
i take a seat in our usual spot, leaning my head against elijah's shoulder. "what's up?" i hear him ask me and i bite my lip to stop myself from screaming from the sudden anger that coursed through my body.
"some shit went down." sierra says, sitting down across from us. none of us had gotten lunch because the school lunch tastes like shit and i told them earlier i wasn't in the mood to go get lunch today.
"why don't we go get some lunch and we can talk about it?" elijah suggests and i shake my head, "i told you i'm not in the mood." elijah let's out a breath before shifting to look at me, making me move my head from off his shoulder.
"well i'm hungry and i'm pretty sure sierra is too," i look over at her and she nods her head with a sympathetic look on her face. "so we can all go somewhere but you don't have to get anything." i look back over at elijah and give him a small smile. "sure."
we all stand up and elijah grabs my hand, even though he had no idea what happened, he still knew exactly how to comfort me with small actions. perks of him being my ex.
we take sierra's car to a nearby arby's. once we're inside i find a table to sit down at since i wasn't going to get anything. elijah walks up to me, smiling softly as he places a band on my shoulder, bending down. "are you sure you don't want anything? i'll pay for anything you want." i shake my head, whispering, "i'm good, thanks."
he doesn't say anything, instead he just looks at the line, which was moving pretty slow. he turns his head to look at me again, "i'm worried about you." i raise an eyebrow, "why?" he sighs and looks away from me, looking like he was contemplating on whether or not he should tell me what he's thinking about.
"ever since you and ethan broke up it's like you're a whole different person." i raise a brow in confusion. "i'm still the same person i was before i met ethan."
elijah shakes his head, "i wish you were. you don't seem as happy or social. people around school are starting to notice too, i'm not the only one. you don't even eat anymore. he's ruining you. slowly, but surely."
he stands up when he notices i'm not going to reply and sighs, walking back towards sierra. maybe he was right, though. i'm not the same. i let my guard down and fell for the one guy i wasn't supposed to.
i let my thoughts slip away once i realize my eyes are welling up with tears. i see the girl that was at subway that one time and she locks eyes with me, waving and smiling. i give her a tiny wave back before looking out through the window by our seat.
the bell dings, signaling another customer had walked into the building. i look at the door and a smile forms on my face when i see nate with matthew and sam. it was weird seeing matthew with nate since what happened between me and him not too long ago.
the tension in the air rose as matthew made eye contact with me and held a firm look on his face. my eyes shift to look at sam, who was laughing with nate, not noticing how silent matthew was being. when nate laughs his eyes travel around and meet mine, his face falling.
