trinity west
MONDAY AFTERNOON
i place my books in my locker and grab my backpack, throwing it over my shoulder and make my way through the hallway full of people. i reach the cafeteria and sit down at the table outside, waiting for sierra and elijah to meet me here.
the cafeteria doors open seconds later and sierra walks out, david following behind her. "go away david or i'm telling mom about what you did friday night." she says as she sits down across from me and he crosses his arms across his chest.
"you wouldn't dare." he squints his eyes at her and she pulls out her phone, typing something with a smile forming on her lips. "don't test me, i have her number already put in." she shows him the phone and he quickly apologizes and walks away.
she groans and faces me, putting her phone away. "what did he do?" i ask and she rolls her eyes, "he did drugs with a couple friends." my eyes widen and she nods her head, scoffing. we sit in silence until elijah soon joins us and we get up and walk over to my car.
"where are we going again?" elijah asks and i shake my head, "how do you seriously not remember? we talked about it this morning in gym." he shrugs.
"we're going to subway, it's the only good place to eat anymore." sierra answered and i nod in agreement. elijah sighs and we get inside and i start the car, pulling out of the school parking lot shortly after.
-
i park in an empty lot at subway and get out of the car, locking it after elijah and sierra got out and shut their doors. i stuff my car keys in my backpack and walk inside with my two bestfriends.we wait in line, making eye contact with people from our school. once it's our turn to get our food, i get my usual tuna sandwich and pay for a medium coke and sit down in a booth along with sierra and elijah.
i pick up my sandwich, about to take a bite until a girl, who looks to be my age walks up to our booth. "is this seat taken?" she smiles shyly, pushing up her glasses with her finger. my eyes dart to elijah and he's glaring at the girl.
"i'm sorry, i just see you guys around school and since i'm new i thought that maybe you would," she pauses and nervously chuckles, "want to be friends?" i open my mouth to something but my mouth quickly closes when a voice interrupts.
"yeah, the seats taken." the voice comes from behind her and she wipes around, her ponytail almost hitting my face. i glance at sierra, she's setting her sandwich down and rubbing her temples, letting out a sigh.
the girl scurries off, letting me see who was talking to her seconds before. "hey trinity, fancy seeing you here." ethan smiles warmly at me, sliding into the booth. i smile back at him and he looks down at his sandwich and takes a bite.
"you're welcome for saving you from that nerd." he says with a mouthful of food. i raise a brow at him and he chuckles, covering his mouth with his free hand. "we can't be seen hanging out with them. they're weird." he looks over at the girl, who was now sitting on the other side of the room.
she quickly looks away from us when my eyes meet hers. "yeah, but i could've handled it myself." i scoff and he rolls his eyes, taking another bite out of his sandwich. i ignore his rude remarks towards the girl and eat my sandwich while elijah and sierra engage in their own conversation.
"so are you coming to the game today?" ethan rests his arm on top of the booth, behind me. i place my cup back on the table and politely ask ethan to move so i could get out and throw the trash away.
he stands up, allowing me to get out. "and yes, i'll be there." i tell him before i walk towards the garbage to throw our stuff away. i turn on my heel and walk back, ethan's smiling at me, "great. can i get your digits?" he pulls out his phone in a quick motion and hands it to me.
i type in my phone number and add my name, clicking done and giving ethan's phone back to him. he smirks and turns it off, "see you at the game, t." he winks at me before fixing his snapback and walking away. i bite my lip and look back over at my friends.
i nod at elijah and sierra, letting them know i was ready to get back to school. they follow me to my car and i grab my car keys from my backpack and unlock the car, letting us get inside. i put the key in the ignition and drive back to school.
-
i jog over to the bleachers in the back of the school, apologizing to sierra for being late and plop down beside her on the bleacher. "it's fine, really, you didn't miss shit." she gestures towards the field, where our team is huddled around coach west.as if on cue, the game begins. me and sierra watch the game, even though we weren't into football at all, we still went because a lot of our guy friends are on the football team, so it's always nice to be there to support them.
an hour and a half into the game and the score is 39-43. i keep my eyes glued to ethan, hoping he would score a touchdown as the game comes to an end. thankfully enough, ethan ended up getting a touchdown and now the score is 45-43.
i stand up, other students following my example, as i shout in victory. i raise my fist in the air, smiling widely as i watch ethan celebrate with the other teammates. sierra stands up, clearing out with the rest of the students. many of them going home, since it was a monday afternoon and probably had stacks of homework, as usual.
i make my way towards the field, where the coach is talking to the players. i stand off to the side, looking at the grass, not wanting to seem like i was listening in on the conversation. suddenly everyone parts and i walk over to ethan. "hey dolan, good game." i raise my hand in the air, giving him a quick high-five.
"thanks, t." he chuckles and i look over my shoulder and see some of my guy friends walking towards us. "trinity, how was the game?" matthew gives me a fist bump once he gets close enough. "it was great. i was almost worried you guys weren't going to win." i joke and he gives me a fake laugh.
nate looks over at ethan once he notices sam is staring him down. "what's up with you two?" nate nods at ethan, glancing at me. "it's none of your business garner." ethan warns nate. "i think it is. trinity's my friend and you're bad news, i deserve to know what's going on between you two." he retorts.
"nothings going on between us, nate." i step closer to him, reassuring him. "i swear, dolan, if you lay hands on trinity at all, you're over. got it?" nate hissed, causing me to look at him quickly. "shut your mouth, nate. it's not like i would hit that anyways." ethan raises a brow at me.
"what the fuck did you just say about her?" nate growls, stepping up to ethan, but matthew and sam quickly pull him away. "thanks for coming trinity, lets hangout later. come on nate, let's go." sam speaks quickly with a smile and walks away with a tight grip on nate.
i watch as they go back into the school and turn back to ethan, giving him an icy stare. "what was that about?" i ask and he looks away, licking his lips. "look, i just said that so he would shut up. i'm sorry, i didn't mean it." his eyes meet mine and i scoff.
"really? cause making a comment like that isn't going to shut him up. it's just going to cause a fight, ethan." i look around, seeing the field empty and take this as an opportunity to talk to ethan about the whole deal.
"so, i wanted to talk to you about something." i say, changing the subject rather quickly. he gives me a 'keep going' look.
"i heard you're a player, so let's play a game. let's sweet talk. let's play fight. we'll talk 24/7. let's tell each other good morning and goodnight everyday. let's take walks together and give each other nicknames. we'll hang out with each other's friends. we'll go on dates and talk on the phone all night long. we'll hold each other, kiss and even hug. but whoever falls in love first," i pause, seeing that his attention is fully on me. "loses."
