  (Jack's POV)

I awoke to the sound of Lydia breathing heavily. I sat up in a state of confusion to see Lydia sweating with a look of discomfort plastered on her face. I gently put my hand on her forehead to see that she was burning up.
  "Lydia!" I whisper yelled.
  "Wake up Darlin'"
Her breathing became more and more unstable and heavier with each breath.
I shook her shoulder slightly but she wouldn't move, only looked more and more distressed by each passing second.
"Sweetheart!" I said louder this time in a desperate attempt to wake her.
"Dad! D.....Dad!" She cried in her sleep. If broke my heart.
"It's ok sweetheart I'm here, just... Please, wake up sweetheart!" I said getting louder, shaking her more.
Suddenly, she jolted awake, breathing uncontrollably searching the room for me. When her eyes locked with mine, she launched herself into my arms and I held her close, hushing her and whispering sweet things into her ear.

  (Lydia's POV)

As I awoke with I start, I frantically searched for my Dad. He stared at me with his eyes full of concern as I jumped into his arms, crying into his chest.
"Hush, sweetheart, I..uh...it's alright love, I'm here," Dad whispered close to my ear. I hugged him tighter and cried harder.
"I's alrigh' love, what happened, nightmare?" He asked. I nodded slowly, burying my face deeper into his chest.
"What happened in it?" He asked comfortingly.
"I..woke up back in Tortuga, I guess you had taken me back, I woke up on the floor, over my mother's grave, and then the pirates that used to try to kill me for leverage against you came back and kidnapped me, then tortured me," I cried hysterically.
I hated myself for being so weak, I always tried to hide my emotions, like my Dad I guess. I do see a lot of him in myself, but I don't know if he feels the same.
My dad pulled away to look at me, he wiped my tears away with his thumb, smiling at me.
"Lydia, you know I will never, ever leave you Darlin', and I will always protect you from any thugs or pirates that try to lay a hand on you!" he smiled protectively, pulling me closed again.
"Thank you Dad," I smiled again, feeling safe and happy in his arms. It was still a very new experience to me, having a family that actually cares for me once more. My hopes died with my mother.
"Now please darlin', try and get some sleep, tomorrow we can duel if you want?'
"Really?" I questioned, hoping he would say yes. I had heard of the Captains' unmatchable swordsman skills but was yet to see for myself.
"Course love," he assured while laying back down with open arms. I layed down next to him again.
"Thank you Dad!" I said in a giddy tone. He let out another hearty chuckle and closed his eyes.
"And, I uh.. I'm sorry for being weak Dad," I whispered.
This caught his attention as he opened his eyes and looked over to me.
"Listen to me Lydia-Rose Sparrow. You are NOT weak. You are the strongest girl I know, just like your mother. You have lived alone for years, survived and made a good life for yourself. You were strong enough to join a crew and brave enough to enlighten me, in the complete dark in knowing what my reaction would be. You are strong love, trust me," he firmly spoke. This made my eyes water with happiness. My fathers approval felt so amazing. I snuggled up closer to him and drifted off to sleep again, this time my mind was filled with excitement to sword fight my father tomorrow.

As I woke up I heard the loud snores of my dad. I look over and chuckled. He still had his arm draped around me and was smiling in his sleep. His mouth slightly agape. Suddenly he took a large intake of breath and his eyes slowly opened. He looked over at me and smiled.
"Lydia love, sleep well after, you know, that happened?" he asked.
"Yep!" I smiled, "you don't stand a chance!"
He looked at me confused until it clicked.
"Ahh, there's where you're wrong dear," he chuckled. I shook my head and got up, picking up one of our empty rum bottles from last night.
"I told you not to drink so much," he said in an annoyed tone. "You're gonna have an awful headache.
"Look at me, I'm fine Dad," I laughed.
"Just like your Dad, drink so much of it it no longer has an affect on ya," he grinned.
  "Guess so," I agreed.
We both marched out of the cabin hand in hand as we greeted the crew. I smiled at them all at they smiled back, which made me feel welcome. Infront of the whole crew, my Dad drew his sword. He gave me a cheeky grin as I drew mine. The crew stood there in utter confusion as master Scrum began to play his ukulele. As we clashed swords for the first time I heard the crew muttering to themselves.
"Ahh, let's test your footwork my darling. If I move left.."
Before he could finish I counteracted his move. He looked impressed.
  "Very good!" He grinned.
With this I took a jab which he skillfully blocked before we broke out into a full on duel. The crew fell silent and all that could be heard was the clashing and clanging of our blades. This went on for several minutes, both equally matched. It was like fighting myself. He knew every move I did. I was beginning to wonder if he was the one that taught my mother. After a moment of thought I decided to use the move that my mother exclusively taught me, ducking and spinning around with my sword, forcing him to put his hands up out of the way.
"Bugger! Your mother taught you that did she?" Jack sighed, defeated.
"Yeah, what's wrong, old age finally catching up to you Captain?" I joked.
"Oi! I'll have you know that I am not that old Lydia-Rose Sparrow!"
The whole crew laughed and Gibbs came up and patted my shoulder.
"Well done Lydia, yer just like your Dad!" Gibbs complemented.
"Thank you Master Gibbs. That means a lot to me,"
Jack grinned, showing his shiny golden teeth. We put our swords back in our belt and I went off to talk to the crew.
Master Scrum came up to me and smiled.
"How did you learn to fight so well if I may ask Lydia?"
"My mother taught me from when I was 5. I've practiced everyday since then," I replied with a kind smile.
"Aye! I had the pleasure of sailing with your mother and father together! They're both amazing in their own individual way, I remember when they were dancing together and I played music for them under the stars. Your father is a really good dancer!" This made me smile, knowing that my parents had once cared for eachother filled my heart with happiness.
"Oh really? I'll have to get him to show me sometime," I snickered. This would be fun.
"So, did you know my mother well?"
"Aye, I sailed with her and your grandfather Black Beard to the fountain of youth, though I think you should ask Jack about that because I blacked out halfway through the fight."
"Aye, I'll ask him sometime," I smiled before he went of and continued to work.
I walked up to Jack who was at the wheel with Gibbs.
"How does it feel to be beaten Captain?" You joked.
Gibbs stifled a laugh and Jack glared at me, playfully punching my arm. I leaned over the rail and felt the sea breeze blow against my face.
  "It's beautiful,"
"Aye" Gibbs and Jack replied in unison.
"The sea does that to ya love, makes ya appreciate the smaller things in life." My Dad smiled. I turned back to him as he was steering the wheel.
"C'mon love," my Dad said as he beckoned me over.
I walked over to him and he moved away from the helm. I took the wheel, running my hands over the smooth oak wood. My Dad stood behind me with his arms around me on the wheel, guiding me. I layed back against his chest, enjoying the sun on my tanned face. I looked up to my father who was grinning.
After a few hours of standing at the helm talking to my father, I went below deck to find some food.
The food was revolting but what else could I expect?
I went back to the upper deck and began to talk to Gibbs, Rigetti and Pintel.
"Ya gettin' seasick yet?" Gibbs asked.
"No, hope I don't get seasick though, this is much better than land."
"I agree Miss Sparrow, I haven't been on land in years!" Rigetti replied.
  "Me 'either Miss," Pintel agreed.
  "Call me Lydia," I smiled.

A few hours later, the sun began to set. It was absolutely beautiful, the pink clouds mixed with the bright, shining sun. I was enjoying the piece until I heard a low gravelly voice.
  "Ello love,"
I could hear the smirk in his voice.
  "Hi Dad," I said, yawning.
  "Tired Darlin'?"
"A little," I replied turning to look at him.
"C'mon darlin'," he said as he scooped me up and carried me to the cabin.
"Daaaaaad put me dowwnnn!" I laughed.
"Nope, even pirates need rest sweetheart," he chuckled.
He opened the door with his foot and placed me on the bed, pulling the covers over me and kissing my forehead.
" Night love, better than sleepin' in a hammock,"
I hummed in response, it turns out I was much more tired than I thought.
"I'll be back in a few hours love, just gonna set us on course,"
"W...where a we go..in?" I asked, fighting back the tiredness.
"Shh, I'll tell you tomorrow love, go to sleep," he smiled as he walked out of the cabin.
It wasn't long until I fell into a peaceful slumber.
