"IF YOU DON'T THE WAY I RUN THINGS AROUND HERE, THEN GET OUT! I WOULDN'T CARE WHERE YOU LIVED! CHRIST! YOU ARE JUST LIKE YOUR BROTHER... A LOW LIFE HOOD!" My dad screamed so loud that I thought I had lost my hearing. I scoffed loudly, rolled my eyes, and ran up the stairs to my lightly furnished room. I only had a bed, closet, and a very small dresser. My dad didn't really care about me, so he never got anything for me. As I started packing my things, I thought about my friends, my brother, and what my dad said. I needed to figure out whether i had enough money to get from New York to Tulsa, Oklahoma. His words "low life hood" rang through my head over and over as I called my friend and told her to meet me at the front of my house. I finished my packing and called my brother's friend, Buck, before I go outside.
"Hello."
"Hey, Buck. It's Sopie Winston. Can I talk to Dallas?"
"Hey Soph. I'll go get Dally now."
I waited on the phone for about another three minutes until I heard someone pick up the phone on the other end.
"Hello?"
"Hi. Is this Dallas Winston?"
"Yeah this is him. Who's this?"
"It's Sophie, and I need to come to Tulsa."
"Wait, Soph, back it up a little. Why in the world do you need to come to Tulsa? Aren't you still living with dad?"
"Yeah that's the thing. I got suspended for a week for punching a soc in the face, and dad found out. He freaked out about it, yelling and screaming, and told me to get out. He called both you and I low life hoods in his frustration. I already packed up, but I need somewhere to stay when I get there."
"I can hook you up with a place once you arrive, but how are you going to get here?"
"I got a plane ticket. It is taking off in an hour, so I have to go. See you in about three and a half hours. Love you."
"See you sis. Love you too."
I hang up and walk outside. Some people only see the tough hood in Dally, but there is another side of him. He has a good side with sweet words and smiles. Only people he cares about see this side of him. I notice my friend Samantha, so I run up to her holding all my stuff.
"Now, Soph, where do you think you're going?"
"I got kicked out, so I can't stay in that house anymore. I am going to take a plane to live with my brother in Tulsa."
"Aww... will I ever see you again?"
"We can call and schedule monthly visits. I promise."
We hugged each other and said our goodbyes. I turned and started my forty-five minute hike to the airport. I tried to hitchhike for a while and flipped off everyone who passed me up. I stopped when I saw cops rolling up on me. I gave up on hitchhiking and just walked straight there. Once I got there, I was tired as can be and ready to go. When I actually get on the plane, I felt my eyes get heavier and heavier and suddenly I was asleep. I didn't know what time it was, but I felt someone nudge me.
"Huh?"
"Excuse me, but it is time to get off the plane miss."
"Oh, okay. Thank you."
She nods her head. I stand up, hop off the plane, grab my luggage off the luggage rack, and start heading to any open phone booth I see. After continuous walking around looking for a phone booth, I finally see one open. I walk up and punch in Buck's number and wait for an answer.
"Hello?"
"Hey Buck. It's Sophie again. Can I speak to Dally again?"
"Yeah. Give me one second."
I wait on the phone and my eyes wander around the airport. I hear a hand on the other side grab the phone and clear their throat.
"Hi Sophie."
"I'm here Dallas. Are you picking me up or am I walking to Buck's?"
"No! Don't you dare walk here! I will meet you at the entrance in five minutes."
I say okay and he hangs up the phone. I walk out of the phone booth and towards the entrance. I sit on the top of some of my luggage until I see Dallas pull up in Buck's car. I smile ear to ear when I see him get out of the car. Coolly. He walks around the car with a kind of strut type style. I throw my luggage on my back and run up to him. I gave him a huge hug, and he hugs back.
"I missed you Dally."
"I missed you too soph. Now let's get going to the Curtis house."
"T-the Curtis house? So, I am not living with you?"
"In a bar? With drunk people? And your 16? Are you crazy? No, you are not living with me in a bar."
He started the car and started driving toward the house. When we straight passed Buck's place up, I knew he was being serious about the place to stay. I made a confused face at the window while I thought hard about why I couldn't walk. Why couldn't I walk? Why did Dally feel out at the thought of me walking? Dally pulled me right out of my thoughts.
