"What are you thinking over there?"

"Nothing. I was wondering why I couldn't walk by myself?"

"Kids like us are called greasers, and the west side rich kids are called socs. The socs find fun in jumping greasers, and if they know that you're a sister of mine, you would be there favorite target. So, I didn't want you to walk. I don't want you to get hurt or killed. A few months back, one of the kids in our gang got jumped, and it was ugly. His name is Johnny Cade. He's always the pet of the gang, and he's like my little brother. He had cuts from rings and bruises from being punched. He was scared of his own shadow after that."

"That's so sad. How am I supposed to get around with no car?"

"You are allowed to walk, but never alone."

"Okay."

With these words, Dally pulls up outside a beat-up white house. There was screaming and yelling coming from inside the open screen door. I open my door and hop out sighing.

"Sophie, don't be nervous. These guys are gonna love you."

"I'm leaving my stuff in your car."

"That's fine. I am staying until you feel comfortable."

I nod. We walk inside, and everyone stops what they are doing to look at us. I move slightly behind Dally because not only is he two years older than me, but he is also a whole head taller than me.

"Hey Dallas," a tall brown-haired man said. He was taller than Dally and looked like he was in his mid to late 20s. He almost looked like the dad, but everyone was too close in age to him.

"Hey guys. I have someone for you all to meet," he paused and waited for everyone's attentions, "This is Sophie. She is my younger sister."

They all looked at me, and I tried to smile but failed. The older guy looked at everyone, sighed at there shyness, and walked up to me.

"I'm Darry. I'm the older brother of Sodapop and Ponyboy," he pointed to two of the boys sitting around. He turned back and put his hand out for me to shake, and he had a firm strong grip to his handshakes. I half smiled and turned back to Dally, but he was already pulling Darry aside to talk. I kind of just stood there awkwardly looking around the small living room. The term "greasers" must mean the poorer kids. This house was kind of beat up and old, but also I wondered where the parents went. A tall blondish-brown-haired boy with rusty colored side burns and a Mickey mouse tank top interrupted my thoughts by standing up and walking over to me. He shoved his fists in his pockets and smirked.

"Hey ba-by, how you doin'?" He slurred. I chuckled a little.

"NO flirting with my sister!" Dally yelled from the kitchen doorway. The boy looked over at Dally, and Dally gave him a death glare. He put his hands up as if he was innocent and calmed down. He looked back at me and smiled. I could smell the high amount of beer on his breath. He must have been drunk off his rockers.

"Hey baby. I'm two-bit. How you doin'?" He slurred again. I smirked back at him noticing how drunk he really was. He smiled wider, "You shy baby? We ain't gonna bite ya."

I laughed and looked over at Dally. He laughed and shook his head.

"Hi two-bit. My name is Sophie, not baby," I grin like an animal.

"She got you there buddy," It was a younger boy who looked about fourteen. He had black hair greased down by his forehead. Dally walks up behind me, gets super close to my ear, and speaks while two-bit tells at the boy.

"OH SHUT UP JOHNNY CADE!" Two-bit yelled playfully. Dally started talking in my ear making a shiver go down my spine. I feel him smile over my shoulder.

"That's Johnny Cade, the one that got jumped by socs a few months ago. Do you see the large scar on the left side of his face?"

"Yeah. How'd he get it?"

"One of the socs had rings on, and they cut him up pretty bad. I'd also advise you not to ever sneak up on him. If you do, he'll look like he has just seen a ghost."

"Thanks for the heads up."

"You're welcome."

He walked away into the kitchen, and I just stood there again. Darry walked out of the kitchen with Dallas close behind. He put his arm over my shoulder and leads me down the hallway.  He take me to this room that's all the way in the back of the house.

"This is your room."

"My what?!" I turned to Dallas, and he just smiled at me.

"It's your room. You are staying with the Curtis brothers while you are in Tulsa," Dally said from behind me. He hugged me from behind and started whispering in my ear again, but I was ready for it this time. It didn't give me the same chills as the first time.

"Are you comfortable enough for me to go back to Buck's?"

"I think so. I mean I have Darry to talk to."

"Yeah, okay. Come get your stuff out of my car."

I follow him to his car outside and Johnny follows us as well. As Dallas pops the trunk, I grab my backpack and put it on my back, and Johnny goes to grab my other bag.

"Thanks."

"You're welcome. I'm Johnny Cade by the way."

"I know," he gave me a confuse look, "Dallas told me. I'm not some stalker or something."

He smiled which soon turned into a light laugh. He was shorter than I was even though he was the same age as me. I smiled back a him. He honestly looked like a little muffin I had to protect as much as I could. The pet of the gang......
