The weekend came quicker than Madison could have imagined, but she was happy the race was in Rockingham which was in the state. Riding with Brian down there was a little strange, but over the past week they had become really good friends and had gone to lunch a couple of times. When they arrived they went to the hauler to get ready for qualifying. Madison stepped outside to take in the cool February air and saw Kasey from a distance. She didn't know what it was, but now that he was around her again, she couldn't shake him. She noticed him making eye contact and started walking over. "Hi Madison" he said. "Hi" she said. "Good to see you again" he said. "You too" she said. There was some awkward silence then came the question Madison thought may be coming. "Madison would you like to have dinner with me?" he asked. She thought about it for a minute and decided what the hell she had nothing to lose. "Sure" she said. "Great what is your number and I'll call you later this week" Kasey said. "It's 704-543-9855" she said. "Perfect" he said putting the number in his phone and then her phone went off. "Now you have mine too" he said. "Great I have to get going" Madison said and walked back inside the hauler. Later that day Brian, Jr and Kasey were standing together waiting for qualifying to start. "So Kahne did you ask Madison out or something" Jr asked. "What makes you think that?" he asked. "I saw ya'll talking outside the hauler and thought you might have" Brian said. "We grew up together that's it" he said. "Well if you didn't do you mind if I ask her out?" Jr asked. "I can't stop you" Kasey said. "Ok" he said.

The race weekend flew by and Kasey finished in a dead heat for first with Matt Kenseth. Madison was waiting for Brian when Kasey walked up. "Good job Kase" she said hugging him. "Thanks" he said. "What are you waiting on?" he asked. "Brian he was my ride down here" she said. "I can take you home if you'd like" he said. Madison thought about it and it would be great to get to talk to Kasey again. "Ok let me tell Brian" she said. Madison walked into the hauler and found Brian. "Hey Brian, Kasey's going to take me home" she said. "Alright see you later" he said. She could tell he wasn't happy about it because she thought he secretly may like her, but she wanted to talk to Kasey.

The ride back to Charlotte was quite the first couple of miles. "So Kasey, tell me about what has been going on in your life since I last saw you" Madison said breaking the silence. "Well I moved to Indiana and started racing sprints. I started winning and got noticed by NASCAR team owner Robert Yates and drove the 98 Channel lock car for a year. Funding ran out so then I got offered to drive the Great Clips Ford in Busch. I won the final race at Homestead last year and Ray Evernham saw something in me and now here I am" he said. "Well that's an exciting life" Madison said. "What about you Maddie?" he asked. "I went to Belmont in Nashville and then moved here and got the job with Hendrick" she said. "Not as exciting as your life." Madison wanted to pry the subject of women, but thought it was best to steer clear for a while until Kasey brought it up. "So did you have any serious boyfriend's?" he asked. "At Belmont my junior year I did start dating a guy who was going into the law program. His name was Adam. We dated for about six months, but then we wanted different things and we ended it" she said looking out the window. "I have had a couple girlfriends and had some one night stands that I'm not so proud of, but something about them was always missing" he said. "What was that?" she asked. "You Madison" he said. She didn't know what to think when those words came out of his mouth. "Really?" she asked. "Yes" there was always something about that time with you before I left that I can't shake especially the night after the bonfire." "Wow" she said. "What?" he asked. "You just surprised me that's all" she said. The rest of the ride home was quiet and Madison kept catching glimpses of Kasey looking at her. He pulled up to her apartment and walked her to the door. "Would you like to come in?" she asked. "Sure" he said. They walked in and saw Heather had left a note she wouldn't be back until tomorrow night. "This is nice" Kasey said looking at the pictures of Heather and Madison. "I want to show you something" she said. She brought him into her room and on her nightstand was the picture of the group they took at their last bonfire and then one of her and Kasey by the river that summer. "You kept these all these years?" he asked. "Of course you were all my best friends" she said. As Kasey set the picture back on the table he looked into her eyes. He closed the space between them and brought her face to his and kissed her. "We can't" she whispered. He smiled and kissed her again. She pulled his shirt over his head and he removed hers. She unbuckled his pants and he helped her out of hers. He laid her on the bed still kissing her. He entered her and moved slow taking them both back to those nights in Enumclaw. "Kasey" she moaned. He put his hand under her head and kissed her again making love to her. Kasey let out a groan. "You feel so good" he said. Madison smiled at him and kissed his lips. She felt him getting close and he poured into her. He rolled over and brought her to him. "I missed this" he said. "Me too" she said as he started playing with her hands. "This feels right for some reason" he said kissing her forehead. "It does" she said. "So what are we going to do about this?" she asked. "What do you mean" Kasey said. "Well I work for Hendrick and you drive so I didn't know if there was a rule against that or something" she said. Kasey looked at her and smiled. "No Madison there isn't a rule and nothing can keep me from you now" he said. Those words ran through her head and she remembered the last time he promised her something and how well that worked out. "What's wrong Madison?" he asked. "I just don't know Kasey. The last time you promised you couldn't stay away you did and we didn't talk for 7 years. How am I supposed to believe that that has changed?" she asked. "You let me prove it to you that's how" he said. Madison wasn't completely convinced and the two fell asleep.

The next morning Madison woke up to find Kasey gone. She knew it had been too good to be true and cussed herself for letting him take advantage of her. She thought maybe if they had the one night together, it would rekindle old memories and old flames. Madison got out of bed and pulled some shorts and a t-shirt on and walked into the living room where Heather was sitting drinking coffee. "Rough night?" she asked. "A little" she said. "So how's Kasey?" Heather asked giving her a smile. "Good I guess why?" she asked. "Well because someone stayed here last night and had flowers delivered this morning" Heather said pointing to the vase of flowers sitting on the coffee table. Madison walked over to the roses and read the card.I had to be at the shop early, but this is step one in proving I've changed. –Kasey "Wow" Madison said. "It's ok Madison I knew you would sleep with him" Heather said with a laugh. "Oh shut up and get ready for work already." Kasey was helping setting up his car for the weekend when his phone went off. Thanks for the flowers Kase. He smiled and Kale caught sight of it. "I bet that's Madison" Kale said coming over and trying to take his phone. "Maybe" Kasey said. Kasey had avoided telling Kale about last night, but his brother already knew when he didn't come home where he was. "So does this mean Enumclaw's most beautiful couple are back together?" he asked. "Why do you say that?" Kasey asked. "Well I mean you already slept together, I'm pretty sure you'll tell her you love her next and then little Kahne's will be running around before we know it" Kale said with a laugh. "Oh shut up" Kasey said hitting him.
