Her phone began to buzz and she didn't know who would be calling her this early but she wasn't happy about it. "Madison its Sherry and I have an opportunity for you this weekend" she said. "Go on" Madison said. "They are doing a country weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway before the Coke 600 with a couple of the NASCAR drivers and I would like you to go down there and write a piece and do the TV interviews." "Wow ok" Madison said. "You leave Thursday" Sherry said. "Alright guess I better start packing. How long will I be gone for?" Madison asked. "Until next Wednesday" Sherry said. "Ok great" she said. Madison reset her alarm and rolled back over for a little while longer.
Meanwhile in Mooresville, Kasey was at the shop bright and early to get some of the Sprint cars set up for the race that coming weekend. "Kasey, Sammy is calling again about getting together" his receptionist said. "God she won't leave me alone" he said going back to putting a tire on the car. "Just take a message" he said. "Ok Mr. Kahne." "Kasey you have an interview with FOX Sports 1 at 3 to discuss the Coke 600 this weekend" his PR girl Lisa said. "Ok let me finish this" he said. "Oh and you have also been invited to be the guest driver at the CMT country fest at the track as well." "Sounds good" Kasey said.
Wednesday was here before she knew it and Madison finished packing her bag for the weekend. "Are you excited to be jumping back into the racing thing?" Heather asked on the other end of the phone. "I guess so" she said. Madison still couldn't get over Heather being married with two kids and living in Knoxville. "Do you think you'll see him?" she asked. "It's a possibility, but I don't find it likely" Madison said zipping her bag. "Well maybe if you weren't such a workaholic and took some time for yourself, you would be married like me" Heather said. "Look the whole domestic thing is all you, but I like what I do" Madison said. "I think you still compare everyone to Kasey like you did right after we moved" she said. "I'm done with this conversation" Madison said. "I will talk to you later." "Alright call me and tell me how it went" Heather said. "Will do" Madison said ending the call.
As they were getting Kasey mic'd for the FOX Sports 1 interview he was just scrolling through Twitter and the people you may know popped up. There he saw someone who looked familiar. He clicked on the picture and there she was. Madison Stewart. Nashville. He scrolled through her profile not knowing she had a Twitter page and saw she looked just the same as she had when he saw her 10 years ago. Her flowing dirty blonde hair and green eyes always had drawn him in and now there she was. "Kasey, are we ready?" the reporter asked. "Yeah sorry" he said setting his phone down.
Madison arrived in Charlotte Thursday morning for the weekend. As she filed out of the airport and to the rental car place, she couldn't believe that she was here again. It had been 10 years since she left behind the racing life she grew to know for the 2004 season. She drove down I-77 and things started to look familiar as she pulled off the exit for the Speedway. She turned down the road beside the speedway now different and to the hauler to get her pass for the weekend. She filled out her paperwork and handed it to the lady behind the counter. "Alright Ms. Stewart here is your pass" the lady said. "Thanks" Madison said sliding it into her bag. She drove to the hotel and put her stuff away before heading back to track. The view out her window was a lot different than she had remembered and saw all the flags flying off the motor homes parked below. She went to walk back to her car when she saw a bunch of race fans filing in. Emblazed across their shirts were their favorite drivers and she saw some girls with Kasey across them. She smiled at them and went to get into her car.
Kasey was at the track getting ready for qualifying when his phone went off. "Who is that?" Lisa asked. "Michelle, she wants to get back together" Kasey said. "Are you ever going to settle down?" Lisa asked. "Who knows" Kasey said. "At this point I may end up like Dale with a girlfriend at 40 and still not married."
Madison pulled into a spot outside the tunnel and got a golf cart to take her the rest of the way. She was set to meet the drivers for the CMT fest at the track in front of the media center at 2 and it was now 1:45. She figured she make her way over there and wait for them.
"Kasey you're going to be late for the CMT interview" Lisa said rushing him out of the hauler. "Ok jeeze" he said. They walked over to the media center where he saw Clint Bowyer, Austin Dillon, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. standing there talking. "What's up guys?" Kasey asked. "Nothing much Kahne" Clint said. "Where is this CMT person and I thought I was late" Austin said. About that time she came walking out of the media center. Austin and Ricky stopped talking and were all eyes on the interviewer. Lisa nudged Kasey who was talking to Clint to turn around and he saw her.
