Chapter 9

The summer sun was high in the air as we were in school. Our exams were approaching and we needed to study hard if we were gonna pass.The first exam was going to be maths which wasn't good as I was terrible in maths. I needed help. I needed a tutor. And I know just the person!

"So, you need help in studying maths, and you called me?" 

"Chloe, you have awesome grades in maths! Please help your best friend out!" I said.

Chloe thought for a moment and then agreed to what I said. On one condition! She had a date tonight and she wants me there too to help her out. She also said I could bring someone along, but I didn't know who to bring. 

"What about Jake?" said Chloe.

"Wha-what? W-why him?" I stammered.

"Come on! You two really have a thing going. You could consider it your first date. Just tell him that it isn't when it really is!" she said.

"Good idea!" I said.

We spent the rest of our time studying for the exam. But I wasn't worried about the exam. What I was worried about, was the double date. After we were done, Chloe left to get ready for the date. She told me to to call Jake and if he agrees, then I have to tell her. 

I dialed Jake's number. It rang three times before he picked up.

Hey, lovely girl! Need something?

Wow! He was spot on.

"Yeah! You see, Chloe going on a date and she wants me to come along! She also wants me to bring someone with me!" I said quickly.

And where do I come in?

I took a deep breath and said,

"I want you to be my date!"

WHAT????

"It's not exactly a date. Chloe just wants us to go with her so she won't be nervous. So, what do you say?" I said.

Sure! That's cool with me! I'll pick you up soon!

After he hung up, I threw my phone on the bed and started dancing. I was so happy. I would've stayed like that forever but I had to go soon. I changed into a yellow silk blouse, a black mini-skirt and golden heels. Jake came to pick me up soon and we both got into his car.

"So, where are we supposed to go?" Jake asked

"Chloe said we have to meet her at the cinema." I told him.

He backed out of my driveway and we were off to the cinemas.

The movie she told us to meet her in was a horror movie. I instantly refused but she insisted so I had to go in. We got seats behind her and her date. She said his name was Joe. They sat in the row ahead of us. They were really enjoying themselves. Even Jake was having fun. But I wasn't! I was terrified! Jake must have noticed because he grabbed my hand.

"You OK?" he asked.

"Just swell!" I lied.

I was really grateful when the movie was finally over. Afterwards, we all went for dinner. We got seperate tables so Chloe and Joe could have some privacy. Same for Jake and I.

"What'd you think of the movie?" Jake asked.

"Oh, it was awesome! Best movie ever!" I kept on lying. I just couldn't bear to tell him that I was terrified of it. It would seriously be embarassing.

"Carrie, I know you're lying!" he said.

Busted!

"Fine, I was terrified."  I admitted.

He chuckled and put his hand on top of mine.

"It's alright! I'll admit, it was pretty scary." he said.

"Very true!" I laughed.

We spent our evening talking about our fears and interests and all sorts of other stuff. Whenever I'm with Jake, I feel like we're the only two in the entire world. For me, that is the only feeling I needed at that moment.
