Vacations were almost over! School was about to start. And there was a huge problem. My mom was terribly sick. She was getting worse by the minute. They say the chemo isn't working and they will stop it. So once again, she doesn't have a lot of time left. I have to spend almost every second worrying about her. I visit her in the hospital twice as much as I used to. Right now, I'm with her. Because her condition is getting even more severe, they had to shave her hair. Her beautiful wavy brown hair is all gone. She's gotten really slim and is very pale. She can hardly get out of bed without falling right back down.
"Mom, you need to rest!" I said as she tried to get up.
"I'm f-fine, honey!" she said.
"No! You're not! You have to rest!" I told her.
She finally gave up and went back into bed. I looked at her face. There were bags underneath her eyes from deprival of sleep. I was getting really worried.
What if something happens to her?
No! I can't be pessimistic. She'll be fine. I hope!
*****
I didn't want to go to school, but my mom told me I had to go. All throughout school, all I could think about was her. How was she doing? Was she OK? Would something happen? I'm guessing someone had noticed my change of mood, because Jake came up to me and said,
"You OK?"
"Yeah! Just swell!" I lied.
"If you need anything, then just know that I'm here for you!" he said with deep concern in his voice.
I smiled at the thought he was worried for me, even though I'm not the one to be worried about.
"Thank you, but I'm not the one you should be worried about! My mom is! She's terribly ill! Oh yeah! I have to go make sure she's OK! Jake, could you please quickly drive me to the hospital?"
"Sure thing! Hop in!"
*****
Jake and I both went inside. I wanted to introduce him before it was too late.
No! She'll be fine! Stop being so stupid!
When I saw her, I almost burst out crying. She looked so weak. I ran over to her, sat on my knees and held onto her hand tightly.
"Mom! You look terrible!" I said.
"Oh, honey! I'll be fine!" she mumbled. "I'm just feeling kind of woozy. Don't worry! Soon I'll get better and be home! You won't be alone anymore!"
"How can you be so sure? You're so ill! Please, you have to get better!" I cried.
I couldn't stop the tears. They were fighting their way out. I knew if I cried, then she'd be worried but I just couldn't help it. I couldn't bear the thought of losing my only other family.
"And who is this?" she said while looking at Jake. I almost forgot he was here.
"Oh, this is Jake!" I said wiping away some tears. "You know, the one I told you about!"
"It's nice to meet you!" said Jake.
"Likewise, my dear!" said my mom.
"I better let you rest!" I said.
"Yes! Rest would be good!" she said before drifting off to sleep.
I let go of her hand and went outside into the waiting room with Jake.
"Wow, you're mom is really optimistic, even when she's so ill!" said Jake.
"Yeah!" I laughed through tears. "Yeah, she's great! She always knows how to make me feel bettrer."
"Hey, are you OK?" he said while putting his hand on my shoulder.
"Honestly, I'm a wreck! All I can think about is her getting better. I can hardly concentrate in school." I said. "I just want her to get better."
"Don't worry! She'll be fine!" he said while pulling me into a tight embrace. I put my arms around him and buried my head in his chest to muffle my sobs. We spent at least a minute like this before I finally stopped crying. After that, he took me home and told me to rest. I did as told and took a nap.
Then the dream came.
*****
It was completely dark. I couldn't see a thing. I called out to people but no one heard me. I was afraid. What if no one came? Was I going to be alone forever? I started crying. Then I saw a light.
"Carrie!"
I woke up with a start. I looked outside. It was still light out. I got out of bed and watched some TV. Thoughts kept coming to me.
Who called my name?
It was probably nothing. I was just being paranoid. Just then, my phone rang.
Hello? Are you Carrie Andrews, Stacy Andrews' daughter?
"Yes. Why? What's wrong?" I asked.
It's an emergency! You have to come to the hostpital right away! There's something wrong with your mother!
I panicked. I ran to the hostpital as fast as my legs could take me.
My mom's ill!
All I could think about was quickly reaching there. When I arrived, I saw a nurse talking to the doctor.
"Where is she?" I asked.
"She's in operation theatre. Her condition is very severe!" said the doctor.
I waited. I waited for the good news. For the doctor to tell me she was fine. For her to come home and be with me once again. Even I knew that wasn't possible, but a small part of me still hoped. When the doctor came out with a depressed face, I lost all hope!
"Is she OK?" I asked. I waited for him to smile. To tell me she was fine. But he didn't instead he said the last thing I hoped he would ever say.
"I'm sorry, but you're mother has passed away!"
"NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
That was it. My mom was gone. She wasn't here any longer. She was with my father now. I had nobody left. I was truly alone.
*****
Hey everyone! Are you as sad as I am? I am seriously crying right now! At my own book! I know, strange. I could barely type what the doctor had said. So I had someone else do it for me. Lol! Please like, vote and comment! And if you're sensitive! THEN CRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
