I am very sad to say, that this is the finale of That Boy is Mute. 50 whole chapters completed! Thank you to every one of you that has been here since the start. It's been a crazy journey.
I know this intro is long but, I don't think any of you realise how much this all means to me. This is my little corner of the internet and everyone reading this has been a part of that journey.
This whole experience from the readers support to the writing process, has given me so much happiness. Happiness I haven't felt in a long time.
I've also met people along the way who I'll never forget either. Y'all hopefully know who you are.
I owe you all so much. So much more than what you can imagine.
It's a short one, but the sequel will pick up straight after so don't fret.
I hope you don't cry as much as I did, while writing this one.
Clementine
With no more time to wait, Clementine was getting wheeled towards the operation theatre.
With no friends or family around her yet, the nurse found it very apparent that this young girl was going through this alone. There was no one other than the nurse to comfort her.
All of the scans and X Ray's came back, and seemingly showed it to be more urgent than once previously thought.
The scheduled 'routine' surgery was going to be done, but with more complications.
From the car crash all those years ago, Clementine had a fractured right leg. It never healed due to the professionals focusing on her amputated left leg. The condition of her unhealed bone has been on a decline since then.
With salty tears leaving her empty eyes, Clem attempted to sit up from the bed, wanting the comfort of someone - anyone. It wouldn't be long before she's in a surgery room, alone.
The young nurse stroked her hair, "It's okay, you aren't alone. I'm right here." All the while, she was getting transferred to the surgery room, through busy corridors.
Still crying, Clem spoke back to her with nothing but plea in her tone. "No, I want my dad. Or Louis. Where are they? Please."
Ignoring the question, the nurse attempted to distract the panicked girl. In an attempt to calm her down, "They'll be here any moment. Who's Louis? Is he your boyfriend?"
Clem nodded. "Yeah, he's my boyfriend. Is he here yet?" She choked, trying to find his face in the sea of unfamiliarity.
The nurse nodded back, still getting wheeled beside the teen girl. "That's nice. How long have you been together?" Giving a smile to comfort her.
Trying to reach her confused brain, the short girl replied "I don't know. Maybe over a year."
Breathing deep, she frantically continued, "Stop. I don't want the surgery." And attempted to escape the tubes connecting her to the IV drip.
"We can't remove you from the fluids until after the surgery." The nurse informed her, trying to stop her fighting.
Finally arriving just outside of the surgery doors, the unnamed nurse knew there was no time left. She needed surgery now, and this teen would be going through it alone. "We can't wait any longer. You have to have it now, otherwise your condition will get worse. This is urgent."
Waving her hands in the air, wanting to touch something and anything, the nurse grabbed her hand again. She gave a reassuring squeeze.
Clem croaked, "Please don't let me die." Fully desperate of anything. She didn't even know what the outcome could potentially be.
By now, the tears were thick and fast coming from her squinted yet puffy eyes.
Before the nurse could even respond to that, a familiar rough hand took hold of Clem's other hand, interrupting the heart breaking conversation.
The light was blocked out by a familiar silhouette.
'No one is dying today, okay. You're going to get that surgery and I'll be right here with you.' The dread head signed.
"Louis.." Was all Clem could mutter, feeling exhausted at the whole situation.
No longer needing to stay awake, Clem was able to let go and drift off to sleep, knowing she wasn't alone in all of this.
Before officially dozing off, she briefly saw the sign of, 'I'll never leave you again. That's a promise.' From the love of her life.
