Louis
It's been a few long days since the library incident, which ended up with Louis in hospital. Apparently Clementine had been to visit a few times, either after or before school or totally skipping lessons to do it. Every time she did, Louis would always be sleeping.
Or, that's what he wanted Clem to think.
Louis was in no mental state to face the girl yet. There were bigger things for him to worry about. His arm was causing him agony, which was now in a plaster cast to realign the bones. The alignment process was one of the most painful things he had ever experienced. Physically anyway.
Turns out, the boys arm was broken in two separate places due to the immense force that caused it to break. However, there would be no permanent damage to the bone or nerves after its fully healed. Thankfully.
Waking up with a headache was the first step to Louis's bad day.
Entering through his private hospital door, was his mum, Nicky. In hand, she was armed with breakfast.
"Finally, you're awake." His mum said, beginning to get cheery. "How're you feeling, honey?"
'My head feels like it's going to explode.' Louis attempted to sign, with only one hand. 'Other than that, I'm fine.' He finished.
Nicky placed the food on her sons lap, forcing his attention to the food. There was fruit, breakfast bars and some selection of hot drinks.
"You need to eat." His mum spoke, matter of factly. Louis just shrugged, beginning to nibble on the tasteless food in front of him. The sight repulsed him now, more than ever.
While attempting to tuck in to the food, Nicky placed a chair next to her sons bed.
"Who did this to you?" She spoke, totally serious.
'No one did it. It was an accident. Leave it alone.' He signed, furrowing his brows defensively.
"Oh, so we are playing that game then." Nicky huffed, continuing. "I know someone did this to you. Clementine told me the state you were in when she found you."
Grabbing her sons hand, his mum whispered "She's worried about you. I am too."
The reminder of his project partner made him feel weird. But, not necessarily in a good way.'No one did anything to me! It was a dumb accident and that's all.' Louis signed, growing more angry.
Nicky was growing tired of the act. "Louis! You tell me the truth now, or so God help me."
The boy turned to his mother, looking her dead in the eyes. 'Please leave if you are going to keep asking me about it.' He ordered her with no hesitation.
Tears in her eyes, Nicky abruptly stood up from her chair. "I've done everything I can for you. And, when I want to help you more, you refuse to let me. Let me help you Louis. Please." She spoke, in sadness and anger.
'You clearly didn't work hard enough then, for this to happen to me in the first place! Just look at me!' Louis signed, feeling his own eyes growing hot in tears.
Referring to himself, Nicky was able to comprehend the situation. Maybe Louis was telling the truth, and that she didn't do enough. After all, he wouldn't be here now if she did more."You aren't the only one hurting because of this Louis. That girl is too. Remember that when you finally look at your phone." Nicky said one last time, before shutting the door behind her after leaving. Louis was clearly in no normal mind set, as he's never once acted like this before.
He had yet again began to push people away, and grown stubborn. But, who would stick around this time?
Grabbing ahold of his phone, Louis decided to see what his mum was referring to. There was an unbelievable amount of unopened texts and voicemails. Some from Marlon and Violet. But mostly from Clementine herself.
Marlon: hey man, I heard what happened. It's a shitty situation and I hope you get better soon. Text me if you need anything. Here for you.
Violet: I'm gonna strangle the person that did this. You tell me and I'll get it done. Me and Minnie are here for you though. Seriously.
The dread head scrolled through every single message from Clem, reading each and every one of them. He would be lying if he said they didn't effect him psychologically.
It was hard knowing that Clem blamed herself for what happened in the library, as very evident in the texts.Clicking on the first voicemail, it was left straight after Clem had dropped him off at the hospital.
He put the voicemail onto speaker phone, letting her voice fill up the silent room."Hi, it's me. I accidentally grabbed your notebook and I know that you'll need it for communicating with me. It's dumb that I'm the only one that doesn't know sign language. Anyway, I'll drop by tomorrow to give it back. Bye!"
Looking on the bedside, Louis was able to see the notepad she was referring to. That meant she had dropped by some time awhile ago. It was the one he was would pass notes to her in, since she couldn't understand sign language. It was cute memories though.
He moved along to the second voicemail. This was left around 11pm, the same night Louis was found in the library.
"It's me again. I managed to get some more of the project done, since I didn't want you to worry about that. It would be dumb for you to worry about the project now." There was a deep breathe through the speaker. "Okay then. See you soon."
And the last voicemail was from 4am. That was the same time from Clem's other messages, indicating she got little sleep that night.
"You don't deserve any of this shit. I'd do anything to make myself be the one in that hospital bed, and not you." She deeply sighed, and sniffed. "Why didn't you ever tell me you were being bullied Louis? Gosh, you're such a bastard. Ok, no, I'm sorry, I didn't mean that. But I could've helped you. I should've done something to protect you." And it abruptly cut off there.
Listening to those voicemails made Louis's physical pain simmer away. Instead, the pain laid in his heart, hearing the girl he grew to adore crying. And not just crying, but blaming herself.
But, the mute boy had mentally promised himself to never speak the truth about this incident, and hope the person who did it will now leave him alone.
That meant, his mother and Clementine, would be left in the dark. For better or for worst.Authors note

I wonder if Louis will ever see sense about the situation, before Nicky and Clem get too hurt. Any thoughts?
