Doubt
Celestia
Year 1987.I sprinted through the night, I felt the strong wind blow synchronizing with my speed. A panoramic view before me encouraged me to survey my surroundings as I run past an army of trees.
I continued dashing below the night sky as the light of the moon beamed into view. Beautiful. Captivating. The words I had used to describe how I felt right now. But, sometimes the feeling is indescribable.
Running this way... it felt like I barely let my feet touch the ground at all. It felt like a smooth drift away from previous distances, sailing towards the evening horizon.
The scent of crushed night grass reached my nose. The serenity of the darkness but it held loneliness at the same time.
Do I need true love? The question lingered in my head. On a loop.
I continued for an hour until my legs became sore. I decided to take a rest, with my back leaned against a dark wooden log peacefully resting on forest grounds. I forced myself awake, aware of my conscious surroundings. Though, I shut my eyes and accidentally slipped into a short nap.
I am Celestia Everett, one of the Lycan wolf guards. I serve under the wolf princess, Snowdust Rectores. I am her personal bodyguard, as well as her assistant. She would always wish of finding the right partner for her. One time, we had an interesting conversation that I'd never forget.
"I'll soon be a wolf queen, and have a family, and a daughter and all of that royalty thing," She murmured under her breath while looking at her mirror, gazing at her facial features with steady breathing. She turned her head to look at me and asked me with a stern voice, "Have you ever felt love? Fallen in love? Whatever that kind of stuff is supposed to be."
I gazed at Snowdust and positioned myself beside her, "At times like this, I haven't fallen in love yet. Though, I want to know how it feels." I placed my palm on top of her shoulder, I could feel how nervous she was and that got me curious. "Have you, fallen in love?"
Snowdust's lips formed a smile that I've never seen before, it didn't seem like the usual. "My eyes caught a man. I'm still a young wolf and I thought it was love at first sight. Mother will call me immature for that."
"Love at first sight is surely inevitable for the youth," I spoke a soft laugh then sauntered around her royal bedroom. "Must be a comfortable life being part of royalty. It must be hard too, you'd have to be trained to be serious then face some boring meetings with other kingdoms."
She stood up and walked towards my direction, she took a deep breath. "That's true, factual, to be honest. I can't believe I'll have to stay as Princess Snowdust instead of my real name which was Belle Matilda. I prefer to be called Belle."
"Okay, Belle. That's a really beautiful name. I also don't understand why your mother would replace it with something as plain as, Snowdust." I replied and kept a friendly eye contact at her. The dimples in my face were showing as I smile.
"I'm very grateful that I have you as my bodyguard, well, a friend of mine," She returned a heartfelt grin. Afterwards, she had her slumber and I left the palace.
I abruptly woke up to eerie sounds that resonated from a distance. Is this it? Has the destined wolf come for me? I swiftly stood up to my feet and gazed around my surroundings. There was nothing, no wolf or any destined being for me to love. I sat down once more and tried waiting, my patience isn't vulnerable to hopelessness yet.
I kept waiting and waiting, three hours have already passed. Fellow animals just passed by, no one else was there. I was all alone under the shine of moon light.
"Are you coming for me?" I asked myself, gazing at the night sky pasted with glowing stars. I'll keep looking at the stars to feed my boredom, I thought. I started counting the stars, a smile has formed on my face again. Whenever I'm alone, all I have are the stars. They're always there, above me.
I miss them, I miss my parents. They abandoned me in the middle of the woods and I tried looking for them. I wanted love from others. I wanted to have a complete family. I kept crying until one day, I was found. A baby wolf was found by its queen. Queen Samantha Everest-Greene found me when I was missing, abandoned and broken and for that I'm grateful that she took me to a place. There, I found a home, the wolf den and my fellow wolves felt like family.
"You're not coming, aren't you?" My heart started to feel tired, I felt tired, physically and emotionally. I was exhausted, I stopped waiting and headed back to the wolf den. My heart has a bit of hope left but not as much as before.
Dawn has entered the world, still faint sun light from over the horizon. One sleepless night has passed, I shook myself and went for duty. As I sauntered outside my home, my eyes saw an army of guard wolves. Oh no, I must be late.
I walked at a very fast pace and I caught a glimpse of our commander. It's an announcement, I thought. The commander stared sternly, "King Vernon and Queen Veronica of Tundra Kingdom will visit the palace along with Prince Gerald and Prince Seth. We must ensure security and a quality visit."
"Yes, sir!" All of us shouted with a salute. The army separated into areas that they'll be guarding, I was assigned to guard the conference room where the royalties will be having a discussion. I was assigned along with a friend, Carson Steppe.
"Guess we're both on the same area," He spoke shyly.
"Obviously," I replied and rolled my blue eyes. I leaned against the wall and crossed my arms. "We'll be waiting for Tundra Kingdom to arrive here."
"Obviously.." Carson answered, repeating what I did to him. He also leaned against the wall. His eyes stared intently at me, five fingers ran through his gray hair. "They'll arrive here," He winked.
I sighed and let my fist hit his shoulder. I turned my head away where he wouldn't see me grin. "Ow! What was that for?" He reacted. I felt Carson come closer to me, his mouth near my right ear. "Do you have feelings for me, Ms. Everett?"
I turned around with an attempt of kicking him but he was fast enough to stop me. "Who would like you? Don't expect someone to love you back," I responded.
Carson stepped two feets away and began flexing his muscles. I glanced through my shoulder and asked, "What are you doing now?" He didn't reply, I asked one more time. "Carson, what are you doing now? This is the second time I'm asking." I turned to look at him but he disappeared into thin air.
"Carson? Carson?" I called out his name. I searched for him around the room but he wasn't there. He might be playing a prank, I thought. I exited the conference room and looked from left to right, the hallway was empty. I swiftly turned to what was behind me and it was Carson with his intelligent skills of hiding. I didn't scream at all. Not surprised Carson, I'm not surprised.
"Aww, You don't know how happy I was when you started looking for me. Miss me already?" He said, holding my hand.
I tilted my head to the left and smiled at him, looking into his eyes. I allowed him to grip my hand as his face gets nearer to mine. Our lips are at such a distance, that they could touch. His smile was big. My fist punched his face, "You really think we're gonna kiss? In your dreams."
I distanced myself from Carson and told him that we still have duty to do. I resisted myself from laughing, Carson is the type to bully. "Come on, let's go back to work."
