Year 1977.
I watched in entertainment as my mother took down a corrupted wolf. She threw fists and ice against it. Then, she landed one final blow and then there was a sickening crack.
I closed my eyes and sniffed the scent of blood rising in the air. The high pitched ringing travelled to my ears and my vision had been covered by smoke. I coughed.
I squinted my eyes. I tried my best to make out any shadowy figures within the smoke. Soon, the smoke had dissolved into nothing and my gaze had shown my mother triumphantly raising her fist into the air.
I widened my eyes and started cheering. I glanced at the corrupted wolf lying motionless on the ground. The life had left its eyes, staring at me. I covered my mouth and looked away from the corpse.
"That was amazing!" I jumped and jumped and my mother chuckled. She clutched my shoulders and stared directly into my eyes.
"Do you want me to train you now?" She asked.
I flashed a mischievous grin and nodded several times. She chuckled again and placed her hands on her hips and a smile carved on her face.
We both went to an open area and began my first day of training. The trees were at a perfect distance surrounding the both of us. I had enough space for kicking, punching and running.
My gaze darted to my mother who carefully glided the sword out of its sheath. I stared in excitement, I couldn't quite stifle the high energy flowing through my veins.
Then, she brushed past me in one swift motion. I couldn't keep up with her speed. Not yet, at least.
She taught me the basics of combat. She also helped me control my powers and I learned how to aim them correctly.
I knew that I had been in a series of training every single day since then. I had been training for about ten years.
Mother and I were out in the open and she initiated today's training. I focused my eyes on her body movement and I was quick enough to evade her kick in one smooth motion.
I elbowed an incoming fist, aimed to my chest and took this as an advantage to wrap an arm around her waist and turn her to the other direction. Once she faced the opposite side, my leg swiftly charged for hers but her hands were placed on the floor and she lifted her lower body up. Her legs travelled over her body, kicking my chin in the process. I staggered backwards. She landed on her feet and sharply turned herself around, focused.
We both sprinted towards each other and our arms avoided a collision. She was fast enough to stun both my knees, causing my back to plummet against the ground with a thud. I grimaced as pain shot my body.
My arms were below hers for a few seconds before she raised one arm up with a fist. I widened my eyes and swiftly lifted my torso up to harshly bump my forehead with hers. She staggered back when the force pushed her momentarily. A proud expression crossed her face before it dissolved into a stern look.
I bounced back and found myself standing still. My knees threatening to drop down onto the ground but I held the pain back.
"You're doing great. Though, the opponent action is more dangerous with a knife. He or she may sink that blade deep into your chest and you don't want to die that way."
"Well... ten years has at least gifted me this level of self defense. Thanks, mom." I smiled.
She returned a warm smile and nodded. "That's all for now. I have to resume to my duties. Go and have a chat with your sister." She turned around to grab the unused sheath and I blurted out causing her to halt.
