I gazed at the moon as I remained perched on the floor mattress. Hours away from dawn. My mind clouded up with plans created by my own brain. I heaved a heavy sigh and lowered myself against the mattress. My eyes stared up at the ceiling. I closed my eyes and drifted off to slumber.
Minutes later, I suddenly woke up to a distant blare of fulmination. I flinched when there was another sound echoing through the basement hallway. It soon faded away when another sound wend its way through my ears.
Is the palace being attacked?
Chunks of debris began falling down from the ceiling. I moved quickly to dodge the falling detritus. My eyes noticed the walls tearing down, making large cracks. I took it as an advantage and started kicking the walls with all my strength, repeatedly. After kicking and kicking for a few seconds, the wall gave in and busted down into cracked bricks and smoke, leaving a hole.
I reluctantly squeezed myself through the open hole and found myself in another palace chamber. There were gunshots and explosions from a distance, they kept continuing even when I found my way out of the chamber. Once I exited, the hallways were filled with smoke and fire. The walls were beginning to burn down and the air was mostly filled up with haze. I coughed and covered my mouth with my left arm. I noticed my skin was now covered with dust.
A fraction of the left wall from my perspective, gave in and barricaded an open route. I have to find another way out of here. The scorching fire continued burning down the palace. I turned to the direction opposite from the barricaded route. It led me downstairs to a dark underground cellar.
There was no brightness or any form of light in the cellar, just the darkness enveloping it. I searched for any kind of light source. My gaze landed on a door, lit up by the moonlight from the ceiling hole. I carefully moved towards it, trying my best not to trip on objects. Nearing myself to the door, I felt something grab my foot but its grasp was weak.
"You're not getting out of here..." The cold and eerie whisper echoed through the cellar.
I recoiled in horror. I violently shook my leg and eventually broke free from the grasp. I stared up at the open hole above me, a flash of lightning from the sky emphasizing its structure. I crouched and jumped, pushing myself away from the ground and reached for the higher ground's edge. I climbed and never slipped back down onto the cold and dark cellar. It's horrifying there.
After climbing upwards, I recognized the location, it's familiar. I'm near Gerald, Maya and Drew's cell! I dashed towards their cell door down the hallway and found it empty. All that was inside were chunks of ceiling debris and broken walls. They must have escaped already. The fire reached this level, I have to get out.
I rushed for the open route only for it to be barricaded by another wall giving in to the fire.
"Snow? Snowdust?" A familiar voice called out my name.
"Gerald?" I instantly recognized the voice. "I'm up here. Go to an open space, I'll be there! I just have to figure out a way out of this floor. Don't stay for me, just go! Please." I replied.
"Okay," His faint but perceptible voice answered.
My eyes pinned down on my hands. I felt my hands slowly glow blue and my eyes transformed teal. Gritting my teeth, I began freezing the debris barricade into ice. When the barricade had transformed to ice, I immediately kicked it down and it shattered like glass.
I continued through the route and found my way to the throne room. My eyes hastily scrutinized the area and stopped when it witnessed a glowing object. My legs quickly ran for the glowing object. I stopped when I realized I was very close to it. I lifted my hand up and made contact with the glowing marlinspike. The runes on the blade were whispering. I didn't understand but I quickly grabbed it and kept it with me.
