Away From Home
Celestia's Perspective
I stepped out of the tent and strode towards the kingdom gates. Carson approached, biting his lip. "What? It's not like you're going to die from a stab. Well, a stab in the heart will get you killed, especially in a battlefield," I complained all of a sudden.
"I never said anything. I'm just a silent wolf guard here, following the future queen. Actually, it's our job to protect her from harm," Carson replied coldly. He crossed his arms and continued heading for the gates.
I rolled my eyes after his response. The backpack I carried with me was a bit of a weight but it had the essentials. Almost reaching the gates, I stopped, feeling lightheaded. I shook my head and resumed walking. Carson eyed at me with a hint of perturbation.
He and I had finally left the grounds of the wolf den, Snowdust patiently waited by the trees. "Ready? This will be a long adventure."
Carson and I stared at Snowdust, "We're prepared," I replied with a smile. We followed Snowdust who walked along the grassy pathway. The moon was at a glow, that time of midnight. I didn't mind the eerie ambience of the woodlands, I've been used to it. Carson went closer to me, and closer until we're an inch apart.
"So.. nearing yourself?" I asked, an eyebrow raised. I gazed at him with a stern face, he swallowed a growing lump in his throat.
"Any problems with that? I can set us five feet apart if you want. Even twenty feet apart, I could do," He smirked.
"I just asked a question," I answered.
"Celestia..." His voice grew serious, a lower pitch.
"What is it now?" My voice expressed my emotion right now, exasperated.
"If you have feelings for me, tell me right away. I could hook you up," Carson winked and nudged my rib with his elbow. He gazed at me with those try-to-be-cute eyes but it's not working at all.
"Sure, I will. After you're dead," I laughed and started mocking Carson whose face toned down to a bit of melancholy. He walked a little faster than me, I was already behind him after six seconds. Oh no, I had hurt his feelings, I thought.
The three of us came to a halt when we heard suspicious blares that resonated from a close range. Snowdust signaled us to stay where we are while she went to investigate. As she grew a distance while examining, I observed my surroundings. A pair of red eyes glowed from a pitch black area. Snowdust sprinted towards my direction and pulled out her gun. Aiming at the pair of red eyes, Snowdust stared angrily.
Carson looked at the glowing red eyes, he scowled. The red eyes went into a motion. It disappeared from the area where I had seen it. With that, I was on alert. It must be a vampire. We stayed, the red eyes never made an appearance after a moment. Snowdust's fingers rubbed her head, "That might be a spy of some sort. It looks like we're going to have to be smarter this time, obviously."
Snowdust, Carson and I proceeded towards one direction. Snowdust grabbed a map from her bag and studied it. "The vampire palace is a long distance, we'll be there by dayttime." I nodded and fixated my gaze on the road.
BY DAWN. Our legs were getting exhausted from the all night travel. We decided to take a rest and replenish ourselves. Snowdust sat down and took a water bottle from her bag. Carson's back rested against the trunk of the tree. I gazed around my surroundings, leaves were falling from branches. Withered catmints, wilted flowers, as if it were a symbol.
Snowdust scanned the map once more, and took a deep breathe. "We're close." She folded the map and shoved it inside her bag then carried it. You two, take the time to rest while I search around this area. Who knows, the vampire kingdom might be a few feets away.
