Ellie's POV.
"Ellie, please don't do this," I faintly hear Ricky murmur.
"Again?" I sneer. "We were just getting over everything together, and you go and do something likes this again? Why the-"
"Calm down, Ellie," Ricky interrupts. "I know what it looks like, but it's not anything serious. We didn't kiss."
"I don't care if you didn't kiss!" I exclaim. "You told me we were moving on from this whole thing. What happened to being glad that Sarah was out of the picture?" Sarah flinches, but I couldn't care less. Ricky puts his hand over hers, and I glare at him.
"I was trying to get to know her so that we could be friends," he explains. "I didn't want there to be any rivalry-I wanted everyone to get along. Sarah's a person too, you know." He looks over at the brat, and she smiles at him. I've never wanted to murder her more than I do now.
"You don't have to be rude to her, but you don't have to be with her instead of me," I scold. "I honestly don't care if you don't spend time with me, but Sarah? Seriously?"
"Can you stop acting like we actually did anything serious?" Ricky's expression has gone from sad to annoyed. "We were just talking to each other. I'm sure it looked like that after Jen, but it wasn't anything like that, I promise." His eyes turn sad again. "Don't you trust me?"
I do trust him. Of course I do.
"No, I don't," I reply for some reason. "How am I supposed to know if you're lying to me or not? Ugh, I'm just...I'm so annoyed at you!"
"I don't think you need me here," Sarah whimpers before running off. Typical.
"Ellie, I thought you said...." Ricky pauses. "I just thought that....I thought you might've changed your mind. I thought you would be willing to go through this kind of thing for me. Not trying to be cocky, but that's just the impression you gave me. Do you love me?" He looks at me with the saddest expression I've ever seen.
"Ricky...." I stare at him. "I love you, but I'm still so confused about this whole idea. You gave me the chance to change my mind, and you blew it. You made me think twice about my fear, but then set me back to my original idea of it all. You made me think that love was different from what I thought. Now I'm not sure."
"Ellie," Ricky says, but I cut him off.
"No, enough. I'm sick of hearing your excuses, and I don't want to have to deal with them anymore. I'm done here."
Ricky's POV.
"I'm done here."
Her words hit me, and they hit me hard. I never would've expected to hear them, but I just did. And now I'm hurting. I feel like I've just lost everything I live for.
I want to go after Ellie, but I know she'll just shrug me off and ignore me, the same way she did when she found out about Jen and me. Instead, I decide to go find Sarah. I walk around for a bit before I see her sitting under a tree, alone. I head over to her and sit down next to her.
"Hey," I say.
"Hi," she replies, not looking at me, just staring down at her lap. She looks and sounds as though she's just been crying.
"I'm sorry if Ellie offended you before," I tell her. "She just jumped to the conclusion that something was going on between us because Jen kissed me the other day." Sarah now looks up at me.
"What?" She asks. "Jen....kissed you?" I nod.
"I wasn't expecting it," I say. "We made up and all, but....I guess her mind just put two and two together and decided I was cheating on her."
