Ricky's POV.
We're going to work things out. We are.
It seems as though the easiest way to get around this is to just ignore Jen, but that isn't gonna stop her from liking me. She'll probably try to get to me in any way that she can, but I can't let that happen, because she'll eventually find out about Ellie and me. And from there, nothing can go right.
The first thing we need to work out is how to stop Sarah from getting involved. Ellie told me that Jen threatened to tell Sarah about her feelings, and since Sarah knows about Ellie and me, she'll just ruin the whole thing. I already know enough about her to know that much.
We need to figure out a way to make Jen not like me as much, or to understand why I don't want to be with her, without her knowing about Ellie and me. I go onto Facebook, and I'm about to type Jen's name in, when I see a notification in the corner of my screen. I click the little planet icon to see that she's sent me a friend request. The message says:
*Hey Ricky ;) wanna follow me?*
I frown. I don't know what to do, but something gives me the feeling she's trying to flirt with me. After pondering what to do for a few minutes, I click 'not now'.
Burn.
I decide to call Ellie to talk some stuff over, and work out what to do. She answers after a few moments.
"Hello?"
"Hey Ellie, it's me."
"Hey, Ricky. Any ideas what to do yet?"
"Sort of. I figure we need to either try and stop her from liking me, or let her know that I'm not interested."
"That's what I thought," Ellie says. "But she'll probably eventually find out about my feelings for you, and she'll hate me."
"I'm not gonna let that happen," I assure her. "She just sent me a Facebook friend request, but I didn't accept it."
"Good," Ellie says. "So....what are we gonna do about this?"
"Um...." I try and think of things to do. "Well, first off, we should come up with a few different ideas, so if one doesn't work, we can go to the next one."
"Good idea," Ellie says. "It's like I always say, if Plan A doesn't work, the alphabet has 25 more letters."
"Fair enough," I laugh. "Ok. For the first thing, maybe we should say I just broke up with someone, and I want some time alone before I have another girlfriend."
"That should at least keep her from approaching you for a while," Ellie points out. "We'll have to try and still keep our relationship hidden." My heart jumps a little when she describes our connection as a 'relationship'.
"Yeah, of course," I chuckle, and Ellie giggles on the other end of the phone. I can't help but smile at how cute she is.
"Well, hopefully you can work something out," she tells me. "I'll see you at school.....or before then." She says the last few words in an attempt to be seductive, and I burst out laughing, as does she.
"Ok, see ya ba-Ellie," I correct myself. She doesn't question it.
"Bye," she simply says, and hangs up.
...
The next day, I want to work out a way to get Jen to notice the plan that Ellie and I have come up with. Since we have to do something ASAP and I don't have her number, the only way we can communicate is over Facebook. I look her up and reluctantly send her a friend request, making up something like:
*Hey Jen, just realised I accidentally declined your request, soz. Wanna follow me?*
I press 'send' and hope she won't be onto me.
After a while she accepts with the message:
*Haha, that's ok. :)*
I breathe a sigh of relief when she doesn't suspect anything. Time for the next part.
I open up my profile, edit my status and type in some cheesy crap like 'sometimes the things you want aren't the things you deserve'. Kudos to all the girls who use coded messages to complain about their latest breakup on Facebook, then expect people to understand and feel sorry for them, for giving me that idea. I click the 'post status' button, and sit back and hope this plan will work.
