{Before I start, I just want to thank you guys soooooo much for over 100 reads! Wow! I was expecting like 5 people to read it, ever, and then this happened. I'm really overwhelmed, thanks so much! xx}
My alarm beeps loudly, waking me up the next morning. I groan and pull my blanket over my head. It beeps so many times, it's like someone's swearing over and over.
I eventually stretch out my arm and whack it forcefully, shutting it up. Ugh.
I have literally no motivation to get out of bed and go to school today. The whole 'first day' charm has worn off now. But when I close my eyes, all I can see are a pair of sparkly, green eyes, and I smile to myself.
I drag myself out of bed, thinking of Ellie the whole time I walk downstairs and get ready for school.
Once I arrive, I head to my locker, where Ellie is already putting away her bag.
"Hey, Ellie," I greet, with a little more confidence than yesterday. She looks at me.
"Hi Ricky," she replies with one of her winning smiles. "Still need some help?"
"That would be good, yeah," I admit, making her laugh.
"Okay," she says. "Let me know what you need help with."
"Will do," I assure her. "See you in class."
"Bye!" She waves and walks down the hallway. I stare after her, wishing I had a little more courage to talk to her.
...
As the week goes by, things get easier. I now know where all my classes are, and I've made a few friends. I often meet with Ellie in the library at lunchtime, to do homework or to just chat. I learn quite a bit about her, like how she's been dancing for most of her life, and she loves to read. I feel like I can really open up about myself to her, because other boys would probably think I'm 'nerdy'. With Ellie, I can talk about my favourite book for ages, and she listens intently the whole time. I've never met anyone, male or female, that I'm this compatible with.
On the first day of the second week, I'm sitting in the library, chatting with her, as usual.
"So, you came all the way out here from America?" She asks, seeming stunned.
"Yep," I confirm. "I have to move a lot for my mum's work, but it's mostly just around America. When she got offered a place in the main headquarters here in Australia, she took the opportunity right away."
"Wow," Ellie remarks. "Do you still keep in touch with your friends back home?"
"All the time," I respond with a laugh, which she joins in with. "I Skype them most of the time, but we text each other too."
"That's good," she grins. "Well, it's been great getting to know you, Ricky."
"Yeah," I agree with a nod. But I'd love to get to know you better, my subconscious adds.
