Mia frowned down on her phone when the call reached an end. Her screen went black as the swimming of turmoil thrust into her brain. She didn't understand. Why wasn't Maddox picking up her phone?
She had gone all morning trying to reach her best friend but she wouldn't pick up the phone. Mia's heartbeat enhanced. Was she okay? What if something happened? Did it end badly when the police showed up at school when that horrible fight broke loose? Oh my God! Her eyes widened. What if she lost a leg? Or even worse, her acrylic nails! She knew how much Maddox liked her nails and she would throw a volcano if someone even touched them. What if one of those broke? Is that was she wasn't picking up her phone?
Mia clenched her phone close to her chest as the questions coated her mind. She just hoped Maddox was okay because she didn't want her to be hurt. That was the last thing Mia wanted and needed.
She sighed one more time and looked at her blank phone again to see if Maddox had called her back. She hadn't. Mia threw her phone on her bed and limped forward to go sit on it.
It was really bad. She wanted to hear from her best friend but she wouldn't pick up and Mia didn't have the time to visit her before school since her foot was sprained and hurt when she leaned on it. It has just been a day since she twisted it and it hadn't been anything better but Mia didn't know what to do.
Aiden told her to rest but she couldn't when she hasn't heard any news from Maddox.
I hope she's okay.
Mia looked down on her phone again to see that it was almost time for her to go to school. Well, since she couldn't reach Maddox she was sure she'd meet her at school.
Mia stood up from her bed and turned around only for her eyes to freeze at something that caught her attention.
Aiden's sweatpants were hanging on her desk chair. She frowned and hauled herself to her chair. She was sure to give them back to him when the thought hit her mind. She didn't want to keep something that wasn't hers. It was kind of him- for being Aiden- to give her something to help her in that embarrassing moment in school. But she couldn't keep them, she was sure that he wanted them back, so it shocked her when he only gave her a raised eyebrow when she pulled them shyly to him.
She was sure that he would snatch them into his hands without a second thought, but the only thing he did was to give a hesitant look before reluctantly taking them in his hands. She didn't understand why. Wouldn't he be happy? Or at least pleased?
She was confused again when she saw the sweatpants resting on her chair like they did when she was giving them to him. Didn't he want them back? Is that what it was? Because she had touched them he didn't want them back? Is-is it because of that?
She pulled on the string by the waistband. Was this hers now? If he didn't want them, could she keep them now? She was sure to ask him when she saw him next time.
A buzz from her phone got her startled out of her thoughts as she snapped her head towards her bed where her phone lay. Maybe that was Maddox! Mia's eyes lit up as she rushed forward and almost threw herself at the bed before picking up her phone. But her hope soon died down when she didn't see Maddox's name but instead made her stomach drop from the unexpected name that popped up on her phone screen.
Aiden.
Aiden was texting her.
She nervously swallowed as this was the first time she had seen his name on her phone, except that time she called him. She swiped her thumb over the screen shakily as she read what the text said.
I'm outside. Come down.
Her head automatically snapped towards her window that was facing the street as her face showed a mixture of confused emotions. What did he mean by that? Did he really come here to... to what?
