Lea's POV
"Hi, sweetie. How's school?"
"Hi mom. School's great." She kisses my cheek and walk upstairs.
"Don't you want to have snacks for a while?"
"I'm good, mom." She answers, not even bothering to face me. I heard her door closed.
What happened to her? This is not normal. Usually, when she arrives from school, she shouts, "I'm home!" And she's always jolly and very excited to talk about how her day was. Plus, her eyes look puffy. Did she cry? I think there's something I need to know.
I hope this is not a heart break or I will have a heart attack. She's still my baby and she never introduced a boyfriend to us. Sigh. To answer all my questions, I knock on her door.
"Anak, 'you okay? May I come in?" It took her seconds before she opened the door. It's obvious. She cried.
"You're not okay. Tell me what's wrong. Why are you crying?" She pulled me into a hug and burried her face on my chest.
I just rub her back while she cries. I hate seeing my daughter crying. When she finally hushes, I make her sit on the bed and I kneel in front of her to level my face to hers.
"What's the matter?"
"Gab accepted Daniel as her official boyfriend today. They are now secretly in a relationship."
"What???" I asked in disbelief. What just gone in that child's head???
"I supported her in their friendship because she promised that she will be contented on it for now. I always wanted her to be happy. But not to this point that she abides her parents. I could have stopped her from day one. Now, I cannot stop her and she's even mad at me. What do I do, mom?" I hush her and wipe her tears.
I always admired her friendship with Gab. I never expected them to be like this after so many years.
"Claire... Everything will be okay. Pagsubok lang yan sa friendship niyo. Just give her some space. Sooner or later, she will eventually realize she's wrong. I know and you know that Gab loves you as much as you love her. She doesn't mean to be mad at you. Nafu-frustrate lang yon for sure. Stop crying na. Hindi niyo naman matitiis ang isa't-isa e."
"You think so, mom?" I smile and nod at her. She hugs me again.
"Go get changed na. I'll prepare your snack. Baba ka kaagad ha? Wag ng magmukmok."
"Thank you, mommy. You're the best." She kisses my cheek before going to the bathroom. Sigh.
Sana maging okay na sila. It affects her so much. And seeing her sad affects me very much.
Claire's POV
Like what mom advised me, I am giving Gab the space she needs. Though I'm still watching over her from a far. She seems happy. They really are sweet to each other.
But I would have advised them not to display their affection because they would not want ninang and ninong know about their secret relationship.
"Claire." A manly voice suddenly calls me almost a whisper.
"Daniel. Where is Gab?" I said, kinda surprised.
"She's in the comfortroom."
" 'kay. I have to go, excuse me."
"Wait, Claire. I'm sorry about what's happening between the two of you. Gab is really sad knowing that you're mad at her. Look, Claire. I know, you just want the best for your bestfriend, but I love her. We love each other. We maybe young but we are responsible enough to commit ourselves in this relatioship. You'll see, we'll be good. No. We'll be great. I will take good care of her."
"You better be. 'Coz if you hurt my bestfriend, you'll be facing me." I back face him. Two steps when he talked back.
"You know what's funny?" I face him again and raise my right eyebrow to him.
"It's when you're mad at her but still, you manage to protect her."
"I'm not mad. I'm just disappointed."
"Still, you are a kind bestfriend." I just give him a smirk and go back to our classroom. Lunch break is almost done.
