We've spent a whole night here in this hospital and we're finally checking into a hotel. Chres and Ray are doing a little better, but they will be here for a while. Lyn and Fatou have calmed down and are currently sleeping in the chairs.
Lyn and Ray made it official and Ray's smile wasn't so weak anymore. It was big--but we all knew that the muscles he used to smile were giving him hell.
For Fatou and Chres, this will only make them stronger. Fatou expressed to me that she's realized every day is guaranteed and she needs to stop taking everything for granted. I agreed.
Jacob, however, has been quiet. More so into a very deep thought. Like he's plotting something, and believe-you-me, this cannot be good.
Before going to the hotel, we did a little shopping. Jacob wants to stay down here for a couple of weeks and I've already informed my bosses that I'm on an emergency break. This has to be the most critical time I could have taken a break, with two magazines coming out and all, but I had to.
We then checked into our hotel, a pin house suite, courtesy of the money in our bank. We rode the elevator to the top floor after sliding in our key card. The reason behind this is that the elevator leads directly into the room, so you have to slide your key to get in.
And when we got in, I was in awe. Kay tried to act like he saw it many times before and it wasn't anything special, but me!? I was like daaaaaaaaamn where they do that at!?
The room was a dark, but not too dark, brown. Right when you walked in, there was one bathroom to your left, and a closet for the iron and iron board to your right. Ahead of the closet was a coat rack.
If you walked a little further, you'd see the kitchen (made of marble) to your right and two bedrooms & a bathroom off to your right. Directly on front of me was a living room, and behind that, in its own little space, was a Jacuzzi. Thank God for Penthouses.
The living room consisted of a hung TV, two chairs and a couch. The kitchen had an island instead of a table--which I preferred anyway. In one of the bedrooms there were two beds, a desk, dresser, night stand, and a TV. In the master bedroom was a fire place, a king sized bed, dressers, night stands, and of course, a bathroom.
After looking around, checking out everything in the room, we both unpacked our clothes and necessities and made our way to the bathroom. Jacob took a shower and I took a bath. All of this stress needed to be soaked in some hot, vanilla bean water.
I took my bath and dried off, putting on lotion, deodorant and baby power. I then put on a big t shirt and female boxers. Jacob walked out of the other bathroom wearing basketball shorts. His hair was stuck to his head and dripping.
I patted the bed, indicating that I wanted to join him. He shrugged and walked over to me. That's when I knew something was wrong.
Before he walked over to me, I turned on the fireplace, trying to lighten the mood.
"Babe, what's wrong?" I asked, running his shoulders.
"I've just got a lot on my mind." He said, shaking me off.
I didn't like that AT ALL. "Did I do something? Is it someone else?" I said, the questions rambling out like Niagara Falls.
"What?" he asked looking back at me. "You didn't do anything and you know damn well there's no one else."
After hearing those words, I felt relived but that still didn't explain his cold shoulder.
"Then what's wrong?" I asked, plopping down beside him.
He turned over and looked at me, moving my hair out of my face. "I'm sorry for being an ass. I'm just tripping and I've got a lot on my mind."
"I can see that, but I wanna know what you're thinking." I said, propping myself up on my elbow. He did the same thing.
"I just feel like everything around me is falling apart." Jacob started. "First, my mom is murdered. Then my girlfriend is raped and has a miscarriage and now my closet friends are set up in a car accident."
"Jacob, it wasn't a set up." I said sitting up and hopping off of the bed.
"But it was!" Jacob said get angrily excited...if that makes sense. "The break line was cut. Not broken or worn out! It was purposely cut—snipped!”
I leaned up against the wall and thought about what he was saying. "Okay, but I thought we moved past what happened with me. It's done now. We can't do anything about it."
"Oh! But we can! And I hate how you fucking walk around here like everything is peaches & cream." Jacob got off the bed and walked towards me. "I hate how this doesn't effect. I hate how you pretend to be fine when I know that you wake up in the middle of night crying because of what happen. I know that you wish we had a son or a daughter. I know that you blame yourself for being stressed out, because in your mind, if you weren't stressed, we wouldn't have lost the baby. But it's not your fault. It's mine. I should have been there for you, just like I should have been there for mom."
Hearing those words made me cry and I swear to you I've never cried like that before. Jacob was right. I did front. We could have had a family. My lose does affect me but I play it off because I want to look strong. But he shouldn't blame himself and I keep telling him this. None of this is his fault.
"I bet Fatoumata and Cachee'lyn are next. But I've gotta stop it." Jacob said pulling me into a hug.
"How would you do that?" I asked, straightened up my act.
"There's someone behind all of this and I swear I'm not resting until I kill him and everyone who works for him."
"Jay, violence is not the solution." I said, trying to get his mind right.
In response, he shoved me back a little. "Violence is not the solution!? So, it's okay for him to kill my mom, rape you, and attempt to kill my friends, but we can't lash back!? Hell no."
I tried reasoning with Jacob for the next hour and a half, but he had his mind set. He wanted revenge and he wasn't going to rest until he got it. The conversation was going no further, therefore I gave in.
"K, fine. What's the plan?" I asked, getting a little sleepy. It's currently five in the morning and I haven't been to sleep since we were on the plane coming to LA.
"First off, you're gonna take self-defense classes, while I pick up a few CSI courses."
I opened my mouth to object, wanting to say that I already knew how to fight, but I didn't have the energy to argue. For the next six months I'd be training just like JLo in Enough.
"My CSI courses will be for testing reasons. You know, to test the DNA on your clothes from the rape, the clothes my mom wore, the DNA from the break line. And before you even ask, yes, I saved those clothes."
I once again opened my mouth to speak but decided against it. Jacob sounded like a creep by saving our clothes. Not only that, but since he saved them, it seems like he's been plotting this whole scheme for a while.
"You know, the person behind this never does his own dirty work. He probably has people working for him."
I nodded my head in agreement.
"This might take years, but I'm not giving up."
Again, I nodded my head in agreement.
Jacob kissed my lips, thanking me for putting up with all of his antics. I told him that that's what a good lover does. I don't agree with any of this. We could get into a lot of trouble, but we do at least deserve to know who has done all of this to us. We needed closure.
And that my friends, is how the declaration of Jacob Emmanuel Perez came to be.
That is how Jacob ended in and out of court.
But it doesn't end here.
