Denise's POV

We wasted no time. Kali called to book an appointment with the Seattle Health and Research Laboratory while Tyler helped us book a hotel and plane to Seattle. Unfortunately, he could not follow us to Seattle due to an important appointment he had the next day. Louise and Lanie were helping to fix the room while I took the others to gather supplies and equipment around the office. I took data extractors, ear pieces for communication, lab coats, guns and a few other items. We agreed to meet back at the airport at 8 to catch the plane that would take us to Seattle.

As they were about to leave the office and I was packing my things, Dustin stopped me.

"Denise, can I ask you something?", he said, holding my arm.

"Sure," I said, stopping to look at him.

"Can you follow me back to my hotel room please?", he asked.

I bit my lip. I know what he was doing, he wanted to talk and so did I. I looked down at my things and thought for a moment. I had time, Kali can take all the supplies with her.

"Sure," I said.

I turned to Kali, "I'll take them downstairs."

"Where are you going?", Kali asked, sounding slightly concerned.

I walked towards her and whispered, "I have things I need to sort out. Please help me take my things home, I'll be back as soon as possible."

Kali peeked behind me and saw Dustin standing there waiting.

"Is this about Dustin?", she asked, her mouth turning up to a smirk.

I nodded and rolled my eyes, "We have things to clear up. We just need a little time to talk alone."

Kali smiled, "Okay then, see you at home."

I turned around and lead everyone out of the office. I took a cab with Dustin and the others to their hotel.

He brought me upstairs to his room. Once he closed the door, I asked him, "Why did you want me to come here?"

I knew why. But I wanted to get things moving.

"Can we sit down and talk about something?", he asked.

I nodded and he gestured me over to his bed. I sat down, facing him.

"What did you want to talk about?", I asked him.

I kind of knew what he wanted to talk about, and I wanted to talk about it too. I was just too scared to ask.

"I know that we broke up years ago, but I feel like we never properly got to it," he said.

I nodded. I felt the same way. Breaking up over a letter didn't feel right, but it was the only way since I couldn't travel back to Hawkins.

"I feel like we should discuss it properly," he said.

"Yeah. I'm sorry. I hope you weren't mad at me," I said.

"No! Why would I be mad?"

"Because it was over a letter. Not face to face or even a call. And I never sent you anything back after that. I'm sorry."

"No, you don't have to be sorry. I understand completely," he said.

"But how did you feel? Honestly?", I asked.

He looked down and didn't answer me for a few seconds.

"It did honestly hurt, initially. But that's like any typical relationship," he answered me, looking back up at me.
