Chapter 8

Eleven's/ Jane's POV

We landed pretty late last night and rested at a hotel near the location. I shared a room with Mike while the others had single rooms.

The next morning, Dustin had made arrangements to meet Max for breakfast at a nearby IHOP. We all got up early to go meet up with her. It actually been sometime since I've seen Max. We used to meet every year at Joyce's house for Christmas but she couldn't come last year. Her career had been sky rocketing last year after winning her first major F1 event and now she was pretty famous. She was always travelling and racing in different countries. She's been really busy as her job required her to not only race and win awards, but also go for charity runs and visit children at hospitals and be a role model to girls, which honestly is really inspiring.

I'm kind of surprised she chose an IHOP instead of a fancy brunch place. We all entered the IHOP together. She was sitting at one of the booths, wearing a leather jacket and jeans. Her long red hair was let down, unlike most photos of her with her hair tied up.

She waved at us as we entered. We walked over and she greeted her.

"Hey Max! Long time no see!", I said, walking up to her.

She got up from her seat and we hugged.

"Nice to see you El! You look so cute!", she said, admiring my outfit.

"Hey Max," Mike waved from behind me.

"Hey Mike," Max said.

"And Dustin, and Will, and Lucas," Max said as she saw the rest of them.

She hugged all of them individually, we all got into the booth.

"I'm sorry that I couldn't be there for Christmas last year," she apologised.

"It's okay, we understand. You're really busy," Will said.

"Thank you," Max smiled.

"So, how have you been?", Lucas asked.

"Tired, busy, a little stressed. My flight landed pretty late yesterday and I only got a few hours of sleep," she said. "I'm kind of treating this as a little break from work."

"Yeah, we've also been busy working on all sorts of projects and cases. And Eleven is busy working her way up to being a sheriff," Mike said.

"Yes, girl power," Max cheered, high five-ing me.

"Can I take your orders?", the waiter asked, interrupting our conversation.

Once everyone took our orders, we got back to talking.

"Has no one recognised you yet?", I asked Max.

"No, I usually have a helmet on, or my hair tied up, and I don't usually dress like this. And no one, other than you or my manager, knows I'm here. Anyways, I'm not that famous."

"Girl, we've got to catch up. Let's go to the mall later, I saw one down the street," I said.

"Yeah sure, we'll leave the boys to catch up," she agreed.

I looked over to Dustin, who was on his phone the entire time. Will, Mike and Lucas were talking among each other.

"Is he still having trouble with her?", Max asked.

"Yup. I don't know how to help him anymore. I can't arrest her or charge her for anything, there's not enough evidence. And I don't think I should confront or fight her, she's a psycho. The best I can do is to be a supportive friend."

She looked down and sighed.

"So how's it with your new boyfriend?", I asked, changing the subject.
