Chapter 18

Denise's POV

I looked back up. The guns that were previously pointed at us were now lowered. With a new anger in me, I stood up, laying Gregory on the ground.

"Is it safe?", Lanie asked.

I scanned the minds of the others. They were scared of us. They had no idea what we were. I looked around for the Director. He was in shock by what just happened, and he had given the order to shoot Gregory. However, their guard wasn't down, they were going to shoot us as soon as the force-field came down.

"No," I told her.

"Lockdown has been activated," I heard Kali on the earpiece.

"Nobody move," I said to the others.

Using whatever strength I had left, I got the Director's head.

"Sir, release me and my friends," I said into his mind.

He looked around and then saw me behind the force-field.

"Sir, release me and my friends. I will explain everything to you," I said telepathically.

He stood there in silence for a few seconds, probably surprised to see that one of his most trusted agents was one of them, talking with her mouth closed. Then, he gave his orders and walked towards us. Once he was close enough. I told Lanie to let down her force-field.

I stepped forward and he stopped in his tracks.

"Am I still under arrest?", I asked him.

"Not unless you can give me an explanation to what just happened," he said, seeming extremely cautious and scared.

I understand that he was overwhelmed. The discovery that super powers exists and that there were people who possessed them would surprise anyone, considering it had been the fantasy of so many. And the fact that these people were indeed so powerful would raise concerns about security and other threats.

"It's a long story. But basically, my friends and I were once candidates of the MKUltra project, which was how we got our powers. As you know, the MKUltra project had illegal implications, causing it to be terminated. An organisation in this laboratory have been conducting these illegal experiments, having this boy as their subject. We had come here to arrest them and stop the boy," I told him.

"We kept this investigation a secret because we had vowed to keep our powers a secret from the world."

This was true. After the camp, all the numbers, their parents, the Party and other people involved in the case made an oath to keep our powers a secret. The world isn't ready for this power. People can't even deal with people of different races, how are they going to deal with people with super powers? Also, only young children could receive those powers and they don't have any say, they can't decide things for themselves. There's no autonomy.

"Sir, I am sorry but we made an oath. But today we broke the oath to save lives. I hope you understand," I said to the Director.

"Thank you, Agent," he said.

He then smiled, breaking his usual stoic expression.

"You and your friends have done an honourable act today. You all are no longer under arrest. However, I would like to discuss your powers and the MKUltra project at a later time," he said.

"Yes Sir, but our job is not done yet. Kali has locked down the research lab to arrest the Seattle Research Team for conducting illegal experiments. I think we need men in there with her to help," I said.

"Good point," he said, then turned to his walkie talkie and gave out orders.

"Kali, the Director is sending agents up to you," I said into the earpiece.
