Epilogue

Denise's POV

A month after everything had happened, the Director finally settled the future of the MKUltra project.

A week after the mission, samples of Gregory's tissues were sent over to Mike, Will and Dustin.

A week after that, we arrested Dr Schneider, who was hiding in a cabin in the mountains. We made him sit through interrogations until we got the full story of what happened.

After Dr Brenner was arrested, he didn't come back to the lab to clear his files, and neither did any authorities. When Dr Schneider became Lead Scientist of the research team, he uncovered these files. He found the samples isolated in a safe in Dr Brenner's private office, as well as other records and reports. He revived the project privately. He kept the research team on a low profile, keeping all data and experiments private, among a small amount of scientists.

We were now unsure if Dr Brenner had kept the files in his lab in hopes that one day someone will revive it and expand on his research, or if he sinply forgot to turn the samples in. Whatever the case, I felt slightly betrayed. I thought I had a bond with him all those years ago. I now wondered if he was just playing all of us, turning himself in but not in remorse of his actions.

Dr Schneider found that the stem cells had a certain DNA code, and that it worked the most effectively on young children, not babies as these cells were too mature. He modified sperms and ovums to make them compatible with the DNA in the stem cells. However, it was impossible to produce a healthy human with a 100% compatible DNA code. Instead, he decided to discount it by a little, still trying to achieve a compatible rate of above 90%. He had multiple embryos and multiple surrogate mothers to carry the children. But quite a number experienced misscarriages, some had premature births, which resulted in more dead fetuses, and some were able to conceive a baby, but the child only survived less than a year.

After a few years of testing, one fetus came out healthy and alive. He grew up in the lab under the care of the doctors and Dr Schneider. His name was Gregory. His birth was under the radar. His genes were 95% compatible with the DNA in the stem cells, and they were able to grow well once he was given the injections at 2 years old.

Gregory spent his entire life in the laboratory, surrounded by scientists and medical professionals. His father abused him, using him for experimentation. Gregory didn't know any better, he followed his father's orders out of fear. They put him on drugs when they weren't experimenting on him, so that he wouldn't use his powers to escape.

He soon developed a seperate personality. One had full control of his powers, his voice was deep and distorted, his pupils turned black, and he levitated instead of walked. However, he was very cooperative and obeyed Dr Schneider's orders. The other was his normal self, a timid skinny boy with no idea how to use his powers. He was more resistant but would reluctantly obey Dr Schneider.

Dr Schneider then learnt how to coax the right personality out. He kept regular Gregory in his room and brought powerful Gregory out during experiments. He learnt to control them, using drugs and other triggers.

The rest of this information was found in a secret diary in Gregory's room, made of papers folded and stapled together to form a book.

Gregory's mental health started to spiral down. His depression got worse and worse as the years went by. He didn't understand that he had two personalities or how to control how them. He didn't have a clock in the room to keep track of time, or anything to write on. But he realised that he was brought out less and less, then he remained in the room all the time, yet he heard others outside talking about him.

He later developed a third personality. This personality had a name, Jeremy. He was how Gregory found out he was losing time through switching. Jeremy was curious manipulative, and extremely intelligent. He was unknown to the scientists and Dr Schneider until recently when Gregory escaped. Gregory would wake up to random things in his cell, things Jeremy stole from the lab and brought back to the room.
