It's a beautiful day in Georgia, as I drive my car. Elena is in the passenger seat.
When Elena awakes, she realizes we're not in Mystic Falls anymore, because she asks me, "Where are we?"
"Georgia," I reply.
"Take me back to Mystic Falls, Damon," she orders.
I knew she'd act this way, but I had to keep her safe. Plus, I was on my way to taking a trip here to see some old friends, anyway. That, and I knew it would piss Stefan off. So she's with me.
"No can do," I reply to her.
"Damon," she warns me.
Her phone goes off and I take it from her. It's Stefan, so I answer it, while driving.
"Hello, Stefan."
"Damon, where's Elena?"
"Right here."
"Bring her home," he orders.
I tell him that I can't and I know he's pissed off, but I don't really care right now. Elena is my priority, as well as this first round trip.
I hang up on him and give the phone back to her.
When I pull over, we get out of the car. Elena gets out slowly and acts like she's in pain, which I know she is a little. I'm a vampire, so I can sense pain. So at vampire speed, I go to stand by her.
I look into her eyes.
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"I'm fine."
I know that's a fib, since I sense her pain, but Elena can be stubborn and I don't blame her for not liking me much. I've done a lot of awful things since I arrived in Mystic Falls. But I wouldn't hurt Elena. I would protect her with my life, because I love her, though I would never admit it out loud.
We arrive at a bar and I introduce her to an old friend whom owns the bar. She makes us a meal and we eat. Then Elena gets a call from Bonnie, I don't know what about, and she walks off to speak to her. Then, a few minutes later, my friends asks me, "Where did your friend go?" I realize it's been too long that she has been gone, so I go to investigate. I go out the back where the door is open and see her cell phone there. So I go in search of her.

When I find her at an abandoned sewer plant, Elena yells at me, "Damon, no!" Then I'm attacked from behind by a vampire with a bat. I'm in pain from him hitting me repeatedly with the bat.
I look up at him.
"You killed my girlfriend," he tells me.
"Oh, yeah. She was delicious," I reply through the pain. Then he throws gasoline all over me, before lighting a match.
"You're going to pay," he tells me.
Before he can throw it down, Elena stands a distance behind him and says, "Please."
He turns to look at her and she says, "Please, don't hurt him!" she says.

The next day, I drive back to Mystic Falls with her.
"I saved your life," she announces.
"I know," I reply with a smirk.
