Chapter Five - Flozolt
"I offer you peace. I offer you love. I offer you friendship. I see your beauty. I hear your need. I feel your feelings." - Gandhi
Wolfe picked a hidden spot between boulders and trees where they could sleep safely for the night once he was satisfied with the distance they put between themselves and the capital. He then had started a fire and grabbed some water from the nearby creek. The gentle sound of the water running at an easy pace calmed him.
"We have a few days of traveling ahead of us so get some rest," Wolfe said as he handed a cup to Princess Licht.
Ingrid's ears perked at his words. "Where do you plan on taking us?"
"My home, the Northern Clan," he answered calmly.
"I feel as if Abarrane would check there right away. Your absence has most likely been noticed. Abarrane is a clever woman," Ingrid commented, her brows scrunching with worry.
Wolfe threw one last piece of wood into the fire. "Possibly, knowing her she probably will but we will head for a small town just outside of Flozolt."
Ingrid frowned in confusion. "Flozolt? Isn't that the Northern Clan's capital?" Wolfe nodded. "Then why would we go there?"
"I know people that live there, they can keep us safe. Trust me, I wouldn't bring us to a place where it would endanger you two. Don't worry, I've thought this through," Wolfe stated as he sat down. He leaned against the tree behind him, getting comfortable. "The Queen doesn't know you're alive Princess, we need to keep it that way."
Wolfe looked at her for a few moments. He could barely believe she was really there, right next to him. He could barely wrap his head around the fact that she was alive. As he examined her, he noticed the changes in the princess. Her face held no emotion, most likely because she was still processing her father's death and Deacon's betrayal but she held small scars around her face. Overall, she seemed more experienced in life.
"Licht... what-what happened to you? How'd you get here? How are you alive?" Ingrid asked, desperate for answers.
Licht slowly looked up at her, a small frown on her face. "I don't know."
Wolfe raised a brow. "What do you mean?"
"I don't remember."
Wolfe watched the Princess as closely as possible, trying to figure her out. He didn't want to believe the words that just left her lips moments ago.
How could she not remember? Wolfe's heart dropped. His mind wandered to dark places. Did something so terrible happen that her mind forced her to forget?
He hated not knowing. He hated how he wasn't by her side for so long, how he didn't search further, how alone and scared she must've been. His heart throbbed in yearning, he wanted to know so badly what occurred since her fifteenth birthday.
