Claire's POV

My mind wouldn't stop racing. I knew this had to be about Sammy because him and Emma were doing just fine. They didn't just go days without talking. He would text her while they were in the studio. He would talk to her no matter how late it was. He did everything that Sammy didn't.

"What about?"

"I think you know..."

"Is it about Sammy?"

"I want you and Emma to fly out of here and surprise Sam."

"What? Why?"

"What do you mean why? Why not?"

I didn't answer.

"Claire, what's going on between you and Sam?"

"He won't talk to me. He barely replies. He just cancels every time we get a chance to see each other or even FaceTime. He doesn't call me. He'll text me two messages a week., if even that. He doesn't even tell me he loves me. Ever since you guys left Cincinnati to go back to Omaha, he's just changed."

"Do you think it's because of Alyssa?"

"Why do you say that?"

"Huh?"

"Nate... Are you implying that you know something?"

My heart was racing.

"No, I'm just wondering because I know you knew we've been in the studio with her. Don't think about it, okay?"

"I know, I'm really trying."

"So what do you say?"

"To?"

"Surprising Sammy."

"I mean... I'll have to talk to Emma and Scott, or my parents depending who will be my guardian by the time you want us to come."

"I want you to fly in on Wednesday."

It's Monday.

"Nate, I don't even know if Emma can get -"

"Plot twist: I already talked to her and her parents. She can come. Emma talked to Scott. You can come. Now, it's if you want to." I could tell he was smiling through his last sentence.

"Fine, but if he acts different, I'm coming home."

"Deal."

I hung up and threw my pillow over my face. It's not that I don't want to see Sam, it's that I'm scared how he's going to act. Maybe being together will be different than how he is over text and how he's acted since he flew home.

Was there a sign I was supposed to catch? Was I missing a signal he was giving out?

This better be worth it.
