Claire's POV

As soon as we landed, we grabbed our purses and headed to baggage claim to get our things. I still had so many doubts considering Sammy still doesn't bother to text or call me like he used to.

"What if Sammy decides that he just doesn't want me anymore and I'm coming here for nothing?" I talked nearly a lot on the plane, venting to Emma about the whole situation.

"Claire, breathe. Please? You'll be okay, I promise!"

"Claire, Emma!" We heard our names being called from behind us as we saw Mack standing there in sweats and a Westside sweatshirt. His smile could be seen from miles away.

We finally found our suitcases and headed over to him. He quickly grabbed them from us and led us to his car in the parking garage right outside of the airport doors.

"How was your flight?" Mack never failed to make eye contact when having a conversation.

"Good," I faked a smile and got in the car. I let Emma sit up front with him as she seemed more interested in having a conversation anyway.

It was starting to get dark in Omaha, but it was still a beautiful night. The temperature didn't seem too warm or too cool either.

I noticed there were more cars than usual parked outside of Sam's house, but it was probably just his sister in town with some friends. We all got out pretty slowly. Mack was no longer smiling, but looking rather nervous.

"Hey, girls?"

"Yeah?" we answered simultaneously.

"Do you guys ever think that things happen for a reason? Or that people belong in your life for you to help them through rough times and then you end up being soul mates?" He kept his stare focused on the ground

"Mack, you feeling okay?" Emma knew this wasn't the usual Mack.

"Yeah, are you having problems with girls?" I didn't realize how dumb it sounded until I said it.

"No, I'm fine," he chuckled, "You girls have fun. Hopefully I'll see you both before you head home again."

Emma hugged Mack first, "Thank you for picking us up. This surprise would've been impossible without you."

"It's nothing, honestly," he turned his attention to me again, "Come here, Claire," he flashed a hurt smile before pulling me tight into his chest.

"Call me if you need a ride or if you need anything at all; that goes for both of you," he put his hands in his pockets as he walked us up to the door. It was unlocked.

Emma walked in first, seeing what I never would've believed.

Mack was heading to his car as I looked out the doorway, our eyes connecting for a brief second. My jaw dropped.

All I saw before running out of the house was Sammy kissing another girl who was sitting on his lap.

Not just another girl, but the girl I actually thought I didn't have to worry about.

That girl he was kissing was Alyssa.
