Sammy’s POV
I only had two more hours to spend with Claire before Nate and I head back home to Omaha. We all decided to go out for breakfast before Nate and I drove the way home.
I couldn’t stop holding her hand or keep my arm from going around her. I hate leaving her, but I need to see my parents.
Distance isn’t what it’s cracked up to be, but it’s so worth the pain of not seeing her. The hardest part wasn’t always wondering when I was going to see her next; it was knowing that whenever I do get to see her, there always came a goodbye.
“Please don’t cry. I’m gonna go home and talk to mom about you both coming to visit us soon,” I rubbed little circles into her lower back. That’s one thing I know she liked when she cried.
Seeing her cry was like watching your childhood dog die. She’s only cried once in front of me but that was after she got a call about Scott being in a car accident and not being told the severity.
“I can’t wait to come,” she wiped her eyes, “I’m sorry; I was hoping I wouldn’t do this right now.” She let out a giggle.
We all hugged awhile longer before we left. I made Nate drive the first half of the trip home. I needed to sleep this pain off.
