"You two have a safe trip, alright?"

Graduation had passed and [Name] and Naruto were almost fully fledged adults, perfectly capable of leading their own lives. The two were bidding their farewells to a falsely blubbering Menma, finishing packing the last of their bags into the trunk of the car.

"We will, don't worry," said [Name] reassuringly, standing with her arms crossed as she talked to Menma. Meanwhile, Naruto was busy trying to drag his beloved girlfriend's bag to the car, struggling under its weight.

"Guys, a little help!" he called in frustration, only just making it out of the door. [Name] and Menma ignored him, still talking.

"Sasuke doesn't know, does he?" asked Menma in a low voice, careful to make sure Naruto didn't hear. [Name] laughed and playfully pushed him backwards, making the Namikaze scowl.

"The only reason I haven't told him is because you're always so tetchy about it," joked the [Surname] girl, shaking her head. "Seriously, Menma. Lighten up a bit, duck butt's not all that bad."

Menma's jaw clenched as [Name] defended her ex-friend.

"[Name], I was there," he said darkly. "I was there when he threatened you."

[Name] frowned.

"I don't remember much, but I do remember that we were all drunk," she said in an as a matter of fact tone. Menma groaned and slapped a palm over his forehead, exasperated by his most-likely-to-be-sister-in-law's idiocy.

Well, that was one thing she shared with Naruto: they were both knuckle heads.

"You might have been drunk as fuck, but Sasuke was not!" he said. "Look, [Name], I have a bad feeling about that guy. Please. Stay away from him."

[Name] sighed in defeat, crossing her arms.

"Okay, I will," she said. "I've stayed away from him plenty of times before."

Menma let out a sigh of relief; that was slightly easier than he'd thought it would be. He held out his arms for a hug from [Name], who smiled and walked into his embrace.

"You kids have fun now, you hear," he said lightly, laughing. Naruto had just made it to the gate, panting as he continued on with [Name]'s bag.

"We will. Promise."

What is this? What's going on?! Where am I...?

[Name] lazily looked around, only to realise that she was completely submerged in water and that she was sinking. Fast.

Fully alarmed, [Name] looked around. She was inside the car, with an unconscious Naruto beside her.

NARUTO!

Fingers fumbling with the clasp of her seatbelt, [Name] kicked her door open and reached out for the Uzumaki, panicking. His face looked pale, and it was almost as if he were sleeping.

Almost.

NARUTO!!

Getting the Uzumaki's belt off, [Name] managed to lift him from his seat and over to her, while struggling not to breathe out. She mentally cursed herself for packing so heavily, and pushed Naruto out of the car before following suit. As his limp body began to gravitate away from [Name], she wildly reached out and clawed at the sleeve of his orange jumper, pulling him to her chest as she violently began to kick.

Slowly but steadily, [Name] was propelled upwards, furiously clutching onto her boyfriend's limp body and clawing at the water with the other. She felt her lungs begin to burst, but continued in desperation. She was not going to give up, not until she couldn't push any more.

After what seemed like eons, [Name]'s head broke through the surface of the water, gasping for air. She'd done it! She was still alive!

Half laughing with relief, [Name] looked over at Naruto, who was still in her clutch. Her laughter instantly died when she realised that the Uzumaki wasn't responding.

"Naruto!?" she screeched, shaking his shoulders. "NARUTO!"

[Name] panicked and looked around; the shore was almost a good ten minute swim away from where she was. She huffed, and slowly began making her way back. She reached the rocky, jagged shore after what seemed to be an eternity, limbs groaning in agony and skin burning from the cuts of the rocks. Once she had reached the shallowest part there, a half unconscious [Name] pulled Naruto into her lap, slapping him desperately.

"Na-Naruto!" [Name] put her mouth to hers in an attempt to revive him, to get him to wake up.

But it was useless; [Name] had never learnt how to properly execute the correct CPR procedure.

Realising that her attempts were getting nowhere, [Name] let out a cry and placed her ear to the Uzumaki's chest, listening out for a heartbeat.

Ten seconds.

Twenty seconds.

Thirty seconds.

There was no sound.

[Name] threw her head back, wailing. There were no words to describe what she was feeling, or how much it was hurting her. In fact, [Name] couldn't feel at all.

"NARUTO!" she screamed, throwing her head back and letting her voice being heard by the heavens. "NARUTO!!"

She screamed, and screamed, and screamed. She screamed until the breath was taken out of her lungs, and she could no longer sit up right. With a groan of defeat, [Name] fell with a thud beside Naruto, hot tears streaming down her face as she examined her lover.

"Naruto..." she sobbed, closing her eyes. Naruto's face was burned into her mind, making her agony even worse.

"Naruto... I'm so sorry..." she cried in a croaky voice, reaching out and grabbing her boyfriend's hand. His fingers were cold, lifeless. [Name] felt like she wasn't even holding her own lover. Letting out another wail of pain, [Name] took every last bit of strength she had left to pull herself closer to the Uzumaki, cradling his body in her arms.

"Naruto..." she murmured, eyes beginning to glaze over.

I'm done for. I can't do this. I'm so, so, so sorry, Naruto.

The [Surname] girl placed a kiss on her lover's forehead, whispering a quick "I love you," before shutting her eyes.

I'm sorry I couldn't get us both out in time.

The day of Naruto Uzumaki's death was also the end of [Name] [Surname]'s world.
