The ride to Layla's house seemed endless because of the silence.
After about ten minutes in, I spoke up, "So... The weather seems nice."
Oh god. I have lowered myself to small talk.
"Not the best conversation starter," he chuckled.
"Oh, I'm sorry that I was trying to break the awkward silence," I scoffed stubbornly.
"Right," he rolled his eyes sarcastically.
"How your friends put up with you, I have no idea," I glared.
He just looked amused. I hate his stupid face.
"You hate my face?" he asked, a confused frown marring his perfectly structured face.
"Yes," I smiled sweetly, "I hate your face."
He just smirked cockily, "Darling, we both know that you're lying."
"I am not lying," I scrunched up my eyebrows, offended, "I cannot believe that you are that cocky. Looks aren't everything, you know."
"Said every ugly person ever," he grinned wickedly.
Was this guy bipolar? Sometimes he was super serious and other times he was like this.
"That's mean," I deprecated.
"I know," he chuckled, "But what can I say? I look, and I quote, 'like a freaking roman god'."
My face flushed in embarrassment so I looked away, trying to cover my tinted cheeks.
"I'm glad to know that I can make you blush," he smirked.
"For the billionth time, I'm not blushing!" I exclaimed.
"And for the billionth time, you're lying," he spoke in a mocking tone.
Just as we were approaching Layla's house, I noticed the door was left wide open. The fuck?
Seth obviously noticed too since he visibly tensed in his seat. He opened the door and I opened mine, following him. As soon as I neared him, he snaked an arm around my waist as he scanned our surroundings, looking for any movement. I was a bit scared, not going to lie, though I felt a lot better to have an all-powerful hybrid at my side. We slowly walked over to the house and stepped inside. A few seconds later, we heard a chilling high-pitched scream.
Seth's eyes widened, "Layla."
Without hesitation, he sped us over to the source of the sound. In a matter of seconds, we were in a living room. Glass shards were scattered across the floor. Layla was being held up by her throat by another female vampire with long auburn hair that was let loose. She was wearing a full body suit which was black. She looked like an assassin. I could only see her back though. My heart clenched at the sight of Layla's suffocating face.
"Let her go," Seth growled, trembling with anger. His eyes were glowing brightly.
The vampire lady did, but she flung her away like a ragdoll. Layla's body landed near mine. Without thinking twice, I scurried over to her and placed her head on my lap, brushing away her black hair. I sat her up and rubbed her back as she coughed violently.
Seth sped over to the vampire lady and circled his hand around her slender neck before lifting her up effortlessly.
He seemed beyond furious, but he was deadly calm, which was even scarier, "Who the hell are you?"
"The werewolves sent me," she choked out and let out a strangled gasp as his grip tightened.
"Why?"
