My arm swung in the direction of Seth's face. I closed my eyes right before my fist was supposed to make contact with his face. Suddenly, my fist was stilled in mid-air. I meekly opened my eyes to see Seth's hand wrapped around mine, inches from his face.

He smirked, "Is that all you've got? I've met toddlers who are stronger than you."

"S-Shut up," I stammered as my cheeks flushed in embarrassment.

Who the hell did he think he was?

I tried pushing my fist upwards but he just grinned and pushed it back down effortlessly. Unfortunately, he was winning. I grunted with effort but it obviously wasn't working. Stupid vampire strength. I ripped my hand away from his and glared at him with as much hatred as I could muster, which was quite a bit.

As usual, he didn't fail to remind me that he was stronger than I was. That just added on to my bubbling rage.

"That movie sounds great, so can you please leave and let me watch it?" I spat angrily.

"Chloe..." he trailed off softly, traces of regret flashing in his eyes.

"Yeah, I get it, Seth. I'm weak, you're strong. I'm human, you're a vampire," I snapped bitterly, "Now can you please get out, Master?"

I crossed my arms and walked over to the window, blinking back my tears of frustration. I did that sometimes; I cried when I got angry. I heard soft footsteps; hopefully, that was him leaving. That wasn't the case, though. I felt his warm hands on my shoulders as he massaged them gently. I involuntarily shivered. Without remorse, I jerked my shoulders, trying to shake off his hands, but they didn't budge.

"Chloe?"

"What?" I spoke sharply

"I'm sorry," I heard him say.

My heartbeat nearly stopped for a second. I had been stuck with this guy for a month and he has never said 'sorry' to anyone. Even though he is extremely polite, I hadn't heard him apologize to any living or dead creature, ever. I turned around to meet his gaze, a shocked expression marring my face. Did he just apologize... to me?

A tiny smile made its way onto his lips as he spoke, "I apologize if I made you feel inferior and I promise that I won't do it again.

A dark, bitter chuckle escaped my lips as I shook my head, "Well, the sad truth is that I am inferior to you, as much as I hate to admit it. I am a pet human, you are the king of vampires, so I will always be inferior to you."

"Not in my eyes. Chloe, you are one of the strongest people I have met in my life; that makes you superior to most vampires, maybe not physically but mentally. So, if it's any consolation, I see you as my equal, not my inferior," he smiled meaningfully as he rubbed my arms with his hands.

My jaw was dangling in awe as I nodded slightly. He pulled me to his chest and wrapped his arms around my small frame. I nestled my head into his chest and I hugged him back, inhaling his cologne. Damn, he smelled good. To be honest, I was taken by surprise; I didn't expect him to be so sincere. He pulled away and stroked my hair gently. That always seemed to calm me down.

"Okay, Chloe, what do you want to do? I guess I owe you," he shrugged while flashing me a grin.

I poked his chest, "You definitely owe me, Mister. Since you asked, I want you to teach me how to dance!"

Despite the fact that I used to be a cheerleader, I'm unbelievably clumsy. My mom once put me in ballroom dancing class and the teacher literally complained about me because I kept stepping on his toes. Seth was in for it. He just chuckled and beckoned me over. Suddenly, music started playing from a speaker. I swear, I jumped three feet off the ground. I gave Seth a questioning to which he just smirked. Right, he had telekinesis. Forgot about that. I approached him and he grinned.

"By the way, I suck at ballroom dancing," I stated matter-of-factly.

"I know," he chuckled as he snaked an arm around my waist pulled me towards him. I tried to ignore the slight flutter in my heart as he did so.

His hands found mine and positioned them before he started swaying to the music. It was classical music from Mozart.

What? I like classical music. Sue me.

Anyway, he started guiding me, telling me where to put my feet and hands. Surprisingly, I was doing pretty well.

I looked up at his face and bit my lip. He was so handsome. I found my eyes flickering to his lips. No, Chloe! He's a vampire! Damn it.

When the song ended, he smirked, "You're not that bad."

"I was great and you know it," I snorted.

"Debatable," he shrugged innocently, earning a swat on the arm.

What a friggin' pest.

A deep growl erupted from his throat and his eyes started glowing slightly. I jerked away instantly, causing him to burst into a fit of laughter.

"Yeah, yeah, keep laughing," I rolled my eyes in irritation.

"Sorry," he chuckled as his laughter died down, "Your expression was just hilarious."

I just scoffed and shook my head bitterly, "I hate you."

"We both know that's not true," he shot back as he grinned playfully.

"Don't hold your breath," I snapped, feeling annoyed by his gorgeous face mocking me.

Stupid Seth.

I made my way over to the maid's quarters, making a straight beeline towards Mer's room. I knew she had a free shift, so I decided that I would take a break from Mr. Cocky Vampire Dickhead to go hang out with my friend. Seth, being the generous person that he is, made the maid quarters huge. Every maid had their own room and each room was quite smaller than mine. Then again, my room was unnecessarily enormous.

I had already memorized the route to Mer's room so I stalked over there, ready to complain about how annoying Seth was and how much I hate him.

"Mer!" I yelled as I yanked the door open and was greeted with a surprised-looking Mer, wrapped in a towel.

"Chloe!" she grinned back as her eyes lit up.

I already felt calmer, but not calm enough, "Seth is so annoying! He is so arrogant and self-absorbed, it hurts my head when I'm around him. That stupid, moronic, braindead vampire!"

I was breathing heavily by the time I was finished with my rant.

"You done?" she retorted sarcastically.

I was about to speak again, but then I saw her expression and stopped.

"Yes," I muttered, feeling resigned.

"Good! Because I think that you don't hate Seth, I think that you like him," she explained with over-dramatic hand gestures as she grabbed some clothes from her closet. "After all, he is a really good person."

"Since when did you become a therapist?" I snorted as I tried to hide my burning cheeks, "And no, I don't like Seth; I hate him."

"I became a therapist the moment you stepped foot into my room," she gave me a look and entered the bathroom, "And yes you do! He's always our main topic of conversation."

"Yeah, because I complain about him," I protested. "Honestly, he's like the friend I never wanted!"

"That doesn't matter! You know what? I think Seth's starting to grow on you, which isn't surprising," she argued confidently. "Trust me, Chloe, Seth isn't as bad as you think he is."

I shook my head in disbelief but there was one little part of me that asked a very confusing question:

Could I really trust Seth to be a good person?
