The Romanovs were a big family, but they were just one branch of a much larger, much more affluent family. During World War One, despite the conflict that separated nations and caused the deaths of millions, the royal families in Britain, Germany, Greece, Spain, etc were all straining to find a way to save their cousins in Russia. The richest people throughout Europe were determined to find a way to save Nicholas and his wife and children. They were united, in this one thing.
The Romanovs united them.
