I slid on the oven mitts and sparingly and reached into the burning oven to pull out the tin. Steven laid a tea towel on top of the bench, permitting me to put the baking tin on top of the table. "We make a pretty good team", Steven beamed at me. I jeered. Steven hardly did anything other than changing up the recipe and licking the excess mixture from the bowl and spoon. And he actually has the guts to claim that he helped me? "What exactly did you do to help?", I rhetorically asked, guarding the cake tin form Steven. "All you did lick the cake mix from the bowls".

"Exactly!", Steven grinned, moving closer to me. "And now we don't have to do any washing". I gagged skittishly, acting as if I was about to puke. I didn't even have this much fun goofing off when baking with my old friends since it wasn't really there thing. So, doing this with someone instead of myself for once is actually pretty fun. "That's disgusting", I sickened, with little chuckles between each gag. Steven snickered with me, clutching onto the handle of the fridge and extracting out the chilled bowl of chocolate icing we placed in the fridge earlier.

I flipped the cake tin upside down onto a plate as it slid out. Steven opened the kitchen drawer and grasped an icing spatula. He scooped up a blob of icing and spread it on top and on the sides of the cake. Once it completely covered, Steven sent me a devious smile which obviously meant he was up to something. When I abruptly realised what it was, before I could stop him, he rammed the whole spatula in his mouth and licked it clean. He smiled in satisfaction and handed me the spatula. I wasted no time flinging it in the sink before any saliva could get on me. Steven is disgusting.

We both sat at the veranda, enjoying a slice of the cake letting our feet dangle on the edge. Steven had a bigger piece than me because, BOY, he can eat. I wish I could say the same for myself, but I couldn't eat. Every time I raised the spoon to my mouth, something inside me just stopped me from eating. I was too intrusive thinking about that dream I had. It was so unnatural and felt so real. And that gemstone. I reached into my pocket just to feel the sleekness of the jewel on my fingers, confirming it was still there. It made start to wonder, was that really a dream? Steven caught a glimpse that I wasn't eating the cake and gave a pleading, cheeky smile. I glanced over at him, excepting defeat, knowing what he wants. Without even looking at him, I passed over the plate of cake as he took it, eagerly.

Before he took a piece though, he noticed that I was a lot more reserved and distant than usual. I sat further away from him, not even letting myself glance in his direction. Something was wrong. He slid the plate down next to him and shuffled a little closer. "Hey, is everything ok?", he asked, peeking around the back of my head to see my face. I didn't turn to face him. A placid 'mm-hm' was all that escaped my mouth, as well as a fraudulent smile. Steven, however, didn't buy it. "Nope. Something is definitely bothering you. What is it?".

A miniature part of me wanted to tell him. Would he think I was weird? What am I saying? He already thinks I'm weird. I remembered that gemstone that Steven revealed on his stomach the other day. It did look identical to the one I found underneath my pillow. Maybe he would know where it came from. I peeped up at Steven, who was still urging me to tell him. "Well...", I began, faltering slightly. "I had a weird dream last night and it felt real. When I woke up, I found this underneath my pillow".

I stretched into my pocket, moving past the curled up tissue, wrapped up notes and a handful of coins in my pouch. When I felt the gemstone, I nonchalantly pulled it out into the open, tightly clutching it in my grasp. I held in front of Steven, hoping he would know something about it. Steven grasped the gemstone from my grasp, without even asking. "Hey!", I asserted, endeavouring to jerk it back from him. Steven observed it from a far distant, extending his arm away from me. "I'll give it back", he insisted, tugging his arm back when I retrieved. He spent a while gawking at it. I don't think he knew he just had his eyes secured on the trinket for almost 2 minutes. When he did, he was a little flustered.
