My groggy eyes languidly opened. It took me a while to adjust to the absence of light. What time was it? Definitely too early to wake up. I was about to shut my eyes and drift back off to sleep when I abruptly realised something. Steven wasn't there. I forced my sluggish body to sit up and glance around. A blanket was enveloped around me that definitely not there before.
My eyes roamed across the living room until I spotted Steven. He was curled in a ball, with his knees up to his chest, snoring inaudibly. God, he was adorable. Before going over to him, I grabbed a few of the remaining candy from earlier and stuffed it in my mouth. I really pity my dentist.
I plodded out of the fort, with my legs still half-asleep and modestly crept down to Steven. I kneeled down in front of him, smiling. His head was leaned against the door, with a loaded water gun gently clutched in his hands.
I trudged back over to my backpack and unzipped it. I pulled out my phone and made sure the volume was on MAX. I selected a random song from my playlist, set my phone next to, but not too close to Steven's ear, and hit play.
The look on Steven's face, I will never forget. He hastily jerked awake, shrieking hysterically. It was hilarious. But, karma always has a way of catching up with you as Steven gripped onto the trigger of his water pistol and blasted whoever was in front of him. Unfortunately, that someone was me.
"Gah! Steven quit it!", I called out from behind the gushing water. Steven immediately halted when he recognised whom he was blasting. I was almost completely soaked in liquid, with water dripping down my body. I scowled at Steven with a menacing pout as he chuckled tensely. "Whoops! Sorry about that", he excused, apologetically. I took a towel from my bag, attempting to dry off my clothes.
"Why were you sleeping against the door?", I asked, rubbing the towel on my damp hair. "Was sleeping with me that horrible?". It was difficult to tell, but Steven had a pale blush covering his cheeks. He rubbing his two index fingers together, muttering into the ground. I couldn't tell what he was mumbling, so neglected it.
Hastily changing the topic, Steven glanced up at me. "I was trying to protect us from whatever I saw outside the warp stream". Looking down at his weapon, I gave out a tiny chuckle. "Sure, if anything attacks us, we can drench it to death", I maliciously commented, yanking the water gun out of his hands.
"It was a last-minute resort", Steven huffed, crossing his arms. He must've been exhausted because he normally wouldn't snap back at me. I rolled my eyes at Steven. Reaching back into my backpack, I grab my convenient toy dart gun that I was hoping I'd be able to use tonight.
I flung the water gun back at Steven, intentionally aiming for his head as it smacked off his face. "Ow! You did that on purpose!", Steven called out, rubbing his forehead in the spot the gun hit him. I shrugged, in a 'Maybe, maybe not' way, walking next to Steven and sitting down beside him.
"If it makes you feel better, I'll stay up with you, Shorty", I flicked his forehead, snickering. Steven scowled at me, both humorously and solemnly. "We're basically the same height", he stated. I raised a brow at Steven, showing mild disapproval. Steven's face flushed, facing away from me. "I said, 'Basically' ".
I leaned my head upon the door, trying to get comfortable. Steven and I sat there in silence, gawking at the warp pad. To shatter the lack of sound, I plastered an evil grin on my face.
"What if it's an undead spirit, coming to seek revenge on you". I began making cheesy ghost noises while wriggling my fingers in front of Steven. His face melted into paranomia as his mouth curved into a frown. "Cut it out!", he exclaimed, softly, shoving my hands away.
"Or an old doll that's been reanimated to kill you!"
"That's not funny!".
"I thought you wanted to tell scary stories?", I chuckled, nudging his arm. Steven pouted, shifting away from me. "I thought it would be passive scary stories". I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms. Steven would never survive in the real world.
