So, I just found out the weapon the reader uses is actually called a flail, not a mace. My bad...

The inside of my head was entirely fogged. I wasn't sure specifically what I was daydreaming about, but I knew for a fact that I wasn't paying a spec of attention towards my teacher's lecture. The tip of my pencil heedlessly doodled across my book and I was unsure what I was exactly I was drawing. The world around me began to obscure like I was the last person left on the planet. Or I would've been if it wasn't for a sharp jostle on my arm. Once I was yanked back to earth, I turned my head to see Frankie directing me towards the front.

"We're meant to be taking notes", she explained to me in case I wasn't paying attention. I shrugged, nonchalantly and without a care in the world, "It's not like any of this is important". Not believing how laid-back I was being, she shook her head in incredulity and focused back on the projector. Pictures and short video clips flicked on the screen, making my eyelids heavier.

My eyes were so close to being shut completely until suddenly, the screen began to start glitching. Static flashed constantly across the screen and projector, startling everyone including the teacher. She messed around with the buttons, attempting to fix it or turn it off, but nothing changed. "Woah, should we start a fundraiser to buy a new projector?", Frankie uttered, half-joking.

The screen suddenly flickered as a video of Peridot appeared. The class began muttering amongst each other in confusion, but my eyes widened like giant saucers. The video then stabilized and her dialogue becoming audible for us to understand.

"This is Peridot transmitting on all frequencies from abandoned crystal system colony planet Earth, to Yellow Diamond", she spoke, her audio impaired and the screen saturating with malfunctions. "My mission has been compromised, my escort and informant are gone and I am now stranded! Please send help!". I was on the edge of my seat, gripping onto my desk. Expecting for the video to continue, it instead repeated.

Chatter and pessimistic conversations filled the room. "Settle down, kids", the teacher attempted to calm us, "It's simply a little technical problem, we'll have it fixed".

The pocket of my pants suddenly buzzed, and the room was too loud for anyone to hear it. I pulled my phone out, noticing I got a call from Steven.

"Hello?".

"(Y/N), the others and I found something", Steven's voice said in a state of panic. "Is Peridot appearing on any of your electronic screens?". I glanced up at the projector, watching the distress signal video relapse. I nodded, even though he couldn't see me do it. "Yeah and thank heavens for it. That lesson was so boring".

"(Y/N), this is serious", Steven huffed, in a slight pleading manner. I rolled my eyes, completely dispirited at Steven's lack of humour. "Alright, so what? You want me to come and help you?".

"No! It's ok", Steven reassured me, "I just wanted to know if the video was affecting you too. I didn't mean to interrupt your boring lesson. I'll see you later, ok?".

The call ended and I slipped my phone back into my pocket before anyone noticed me using it. I was honestly surprised I wasn't caught, but the teacher was busy contacting I.T. to fix the screen and the rest of the students couldn't care less what I was doing.

"Who were you talking to?", Frankie asked, pulling my attention towards her. I folded my arms, "No-one important, just my friend Steven".

Frankie's brow raised slightly, with the corner of her lip lifting in amusement. "Steven? I've never heard you talk about him before", she smiled, tauntingly. My brows narrowed into a scowl, knowing exactly where this conversation was heading. "Because he isn't relevant", I snapped back.
