I didn't want to write this, but it's really important for an upcoming chapter, so...

I hauled the bucket filled with soapy water outside, struggling to keep it above the ground. I had filled it to the brim which I only realised now was a big and enfeebling mistake. I was breathing heavily, by the time I reached Connie and Greg as the sun was beaming down on me. I raised a brow when I saw the closed car door and familiar silhouette inside the vehicle.

I grunted, "Is he still in there?".

Connie nodded, with a somewhat pitiful smile, "I'll get him out".

She gently gripped her hands into a fist and used her knuckles to gently knock on the window of the car. "Steven?", she called out his name.

The window rolled down, as we all gaped at Steven, wearing oversize sunglasses. "Hey, guys. Just practising", he stated, taking the glasses off and hopping out of the car.

I rolled my eyes in incredulity, "I question a lot of my past decisions, and you're definitely one of them".

Steven chuckled, leaving the sunglasses on the front seat of the car.

"Alright everyone", I called them all together, "No lollygagging. We're going to spruce up this ancient mobile".

Greg let out an exasperated gasp as if I just insulted his most prized possession. "This baby's a Dondai Supremo from the era of frosted tips, mood rings, slap bracelets", he explained, rubbing the hood of the car with a proud smile.

I scoffed, "Oh, you mean, excessive hair gel, phoney colour-changing jewellery and hippy safety hazards".

Greg, Steven, Connie and I all took a sponge from the bucket and began scrubbing the vehicle. I used the sponge to scrub off and grim or dirt off the paint. I was careful, not wanting to get any soap on my clothes, or my mum will start asking questions that I don't have time to answer. Out of the blue, I felt chilled liquid hit my back and trickle down my spine. I yelped, instinctively letting go of the sponge and turned to see Steven, guiltily holding a sponge in one hand and a hose in the other that was gushing out water. He tried to hold in laughter subtly, but the grin on his face stood out like a sore thumb. I knitted my brows, marched up to him and attempted to snatch the hose off. It became a tug of war game between us. Giggling together, trying to splash the other one. Steven's poofy hair had damped slightly, and my clothes were completely soaked to the point where I didn't even attempt to avoid the water anymore. However, our game soon came to an end when we noticed a polished, gold-coloured sports car drift and skid in front of the car wash, blowing dust clouds in our faces. I almost coughed up a lung, and I gripped my hands, wanting to give the narcissist behind the wheel a piece of my mind. But my eyes widened and my legs stiffed when the car window lowered to reveal the driver.

"Give me a wash, old man", his conceited eyes glared towards Greg.

Greg, feeling daunted, stuttered, "Uh, right away, young man". He bent over and picked up the sponge I had dropped near the car and dashed towards Kevin.

I narrowed my brows at such a sight, "Don't tell me that's...".

Steven dropped the hose almost instantly, water continuing the drip out until Connie walked over to the pipe to turn it off, still facing the familiar stranger with a horrified expression. Steven's fist gripped tightly as his hands squeezed all the excess water out of the sponge. He gritted his teeth in fury and grunted with resentment, "Kevin...!".

I turned to Steven, noticing how hostile his expression was. Though, I had to admit, I wasn't too fond of Kevin either. I remembered the dance party and how he was practically manipulating Steven and I into hanging out with him. He was just another spoilt, rich kid who's probably used to getting everything that he wants and has never even brushed his own teeth before. He was one of the reasons why the very thought of fusing with Steven again made me gag. I couldn't even dance with anyone because of that guy.
