WARNING: Your heart may or may not burst!
Also, apologises that this chapter is over 7000 words. I wrote over my usual limit but I just enjoyed writing this chapter so much that I got carried away!
"If you aren't careful with that thing, you're going to take my leg off!", Greg exasperated, stumbling from one end of the pier to the other in an attempt to avoid running into my flail. I swung it around wildly, mostly for practice, minorly for fun.
"Calm down, I know what I'm doing", I reassured him before swinging it again, just barely missing his shin. The air was coated in a salty fragrance, that made my nose twitch every time I inhaled it. "So, this "Lapis" girl, what's she like? I only know her from the time she kidnapped Steven".
Greg parted his lips slightly to let out an exhale, whilst also slightly out of breath, "She's very, um, headstrong you could say".
I paused, quirking a brow at him before stating, "That's exactly what my mum uses to describe me. So I can only guess that's she's really unnerving".
"Pulled that word straight from the thesaurus, did you?", Greg asked between chuckles, "I actually haven't had the chance to properly meet her since she broke my leg trying to--".
"She broke your leg?!", the weight of the flail was finally acknowledged by my body as I tripped over the spiked ball. The closest I've ever been to breaking someone's leg was when Jerry and I were exiting school together. We had just begun a silly game of footsies and in an attempt to win, I accidentally put my foot out and tripped him. He practically went tumbling down the small flight of stairs. He was lucky the grass cushioned his fall and afterwards. He was completely flustered, but we had a good laugh about it.
Greg eyed the dock as if he immediately regretted the words that just left his mouth. " Well--Hey, look! Steven's here!".
He breathed a sigh of relief as I turned to see Steven leading Lapis, who was using a set of wings materialised out of water to shield her eyes. When her wings retracted, she instantly eyed the yacht behind us.
"Surprise! We bought a boat!", Steven cheered.
Greg corrected him, "Uh, correction. We rented a boat. I may be rich, but buying a boat would be going a bit... overboard".
Steven let out an immediate chuckle while I couldn't restrain the unamused groan scratching the back of my throat. Lapis' face didn't falter. She looked mildly unimpressed.
To hide her disappointment, she glimpsed down at Steven, "Steven, who are they?", her voice sounded uncomfortable and gauche, like she almost didn't want Steven to answer.
"Uh, Greg Universe", Greg offered a handshake to her, "You broke my leg trying to use the ocean to fly back to your homeworld?".
His hand was held out for a good solid moment, expecting a handshake from her. Lapis stood looking at him, making the air seem slightly thin.
"Lapis Lazuli. Nice to meet you", Greg doesn't receive a handshake.
She then turned to me.
"I'm (Y/N)", unlike Greg, I didn't attempt to make contact with her. Honestly, I was a little on the fence about her. I know she saved us last time we met by sacrificing her freedom, but you couldn't blame me for being a little suspicious. She worked with Jasper after all. And last I checked, Jasper wasn't on the list of 'The Friendliest Gems'.
Lapis' eyes, for the first time since she got here, showed a hint of curiosity and emotion, "Oh, so you're (Y/N). You're Steven's human pet, right?".
